I got a Letter!!!!!!!! It came yesterday, and even though I'm in Philly and not Nashville, a family friend read it to me over the phone. He sounded okay, that he was hanging in there. Said food is good, and his feet hurt, can't go to the nex for 2 more weeks. Knows how to fold and make is bed, lol. He didn't date the letter, hoping next time he will.

SailorsSweetheart: I have asked a Navy "veteran" your question about MA of a ship rather than division. I'll post on here when she answers me. Both she and her husband were sailors, and they now have another sailor in their family.

Yay! I got THREE letters today, wow!!! I wonder if they got held up in the mail for a while or if he wrote and mailed three all on the same day??? He is doing really well and he LOVES the division that he is in (Div 283). He said it is an all male division and they all work really well together as a team (thank God!). Also, for some reason the RDC's do not let any of the recruits wear any rings (like wedding rings) because it puts them at risk for injury. But, they can wear a religious symbol (i.e. a cross) on their dog tag chain if they would like.
He also shared with me that he has been asked to be the Master at Arms of the USS Chicago... the entire ship!!! I don't really know what that means, does anyone else know? I have heard of recruits being Master at Arms of divisions but not of entire ships. He said it is a really good thing and he sounded excited and proud of it so I think it is a good thing, just not sure exactly what it is, haha! And how it is different than Master at Arms of a single division? Anyways, I am just SO excited to have heard from him and to know that he is doing great!

He is Ship 06 Div 940 and I got the count down clock on the Ship06 Div 940 Group and on my page.

diannep: He sounded great and yea he will want my Lasagna the first time he comes home. We have always talked for about an hour at the end of our days when we both got home and that is what I miss the most. So awesome when he said twice in his letter that is what he misses the most as well.

WONDERFUL, SOBE. Thanks so much for posting Joe's Mom's message. I know there are some very happy and relieved parents today!

Yes, tasmyn, some PIR's are small like that. The good news with a small PIR like that is that all "extra" visitors (over the "4" alloted per recruit) should get in...as long as they have proper ID!

jkelley: That's great that youir son is ok so far! He should be 4 days into the "fun" part now...and I think he said that about the food so you wouldn't worry about him eating well. Of course Mom's cooking is the best...just because Mom fixed it,, right ? :-)
