Saliors Sweetheart - you are correct. The Gateway Inn does only allow military personal, but we will be travling with my parents, whom are retired E7, so we will be staying under them as there "guests". I believe the Navy Lodge lets you make a reservation 30 days prior to the date of check in, which would make you able to book there starting July 19th.

Amber - Did you book at the Navy Lodge or Gateway Inn? I just called the Navy lodge and they said it is $65 a night but the $55 a night rate is at the Gateway Inn which is actually on base, but the only people allowed to stay at the Gateway Inn are either enlisted military or their dependents?

Amber - I am going to book at the Navy Lodge too but havn't yet. I think I will do that right now :) I think I am going to reserve Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. How many nights did you reserve?

I Booked our hotels at the Navy lodge for $55/night for up to 4 people a room, I live in Tennessee, so will be driving up there and leaving on the 19th 0f Aug. Hoping everything goes smooth and his PIR stays the same, but if not then I can call the lodge and ask them to change my dates. Has anyone else booked hotel's yet? Anyone booked at the Navy lodge?

Hi, Stephanie. Your sailor could be leaving at anytime, but I feel sure it would be after the weekend. If you need to book now, to me the safest thing to do (with no info from your sailor yet). would be to book a flight out on Monday, so at leas you have the weekend with your sailor. I didn't find out that my sailor was GradNGo until about 3 weeks before PIR. I know that makes booking flights so hard...but if at all possible, try to be there for the whole weekend just in case.

Sailor's sweetheart - I know I you feel, I too did not want to celebrate without my son (kidda felt like it was unfare to him). But I also have another son at home (he's 12) and it would be unfare to him to not do anything. So I decided to pick myself up and go visit my parents. We had a nice weekend, and I'm glad we came. Although it still was not the same and I geuss it never will be (this is my first holiday without him) He's grown up and has his own life with his own career, which I'm very proud of. I think I'm gonna have a major case of empty nest syndrome when my youngest flys the coup! LOL!

For all whom want the countdown clock. the answer is yes, as I have it on "my page" on the N4M site. We can make this countdown clock a part of our PIR site for everyone to see at all times. It would be placed in the information section on the top of the page. nnnichols would have to do this for us, since she's the one who started the group.
nnnichols - if you would please do this for our group, that would be great. If you keed help, I'll be happy to assist. Happy 4th everyone

Sobe - Do you know if they will let them see any Fireworks today?

It was hard to make plans today because as some of you know, my Sailor is my fiance and all I really want to do is celebrate this holiday with him, BBQ, go swimming, and watch fireworks with him. Here is a quote that explains how I feel today, "Sometimes when one person is missing, the whole world feels depopulated."

90% of the time I am a really positive person so I am going to pick myself up by my bootstraps, get out of this "funk," and go hang out my family (my WWII veteran grandma (Coast Guard), mom, and aunt - girl power, haha!). I am going to focus on the positive things like how proud of him I am for dedicating his life to support our beautiful country, if it werent for the brave men and women like our Sailors we would have nothing to celebrate today. Thank God for them!!!

Happy 4th of July to everyone, Cheers! (I could really use a cocktail right about now, haha!)

I'm usually very positive, but I don't want anyone sitting around on this wonderful Independence Day waiting for a phone call from their recruit. They don't let them call on Mothers Day or most of the other days (I think Christmas is an exception). Some of you will get calls during P-Days because they need to collect more info for security clearance purposes, but other than that, they won't be able to call home until the 3rd week. So enjoy your day, keep praying for their success and know that they are in good hands. Happy 4th to all of you.

PS - diannep, as usual, I love your thoughts of the day!!!!

Stephanie - I tried to put it on my Facebook page and it "kindof" worked, ha! The actual countdown did not display on my wall but the link did to where people could click on the link and the countdown clock would pop up in a seperate window. I tried to post it in that little box to the right of my profile where you can tell about yourslef, I tried to post it on my "info" tab under "about me" and on my "boxes" tab; none of which actually worked. I am going to keep trying some other options though until I am (hopefully) sucessful. If I figure it out I will let you know :)
Happy 4th of July! I am hoping in my heart they our Sailors get to see some Fireworks today... and I am hoping to that they will possibly show our Sailors some mercy and let them call home. However, as the minutes pass away one by one today I am thinking the RDC's might not be ready to show any mercy yet :( Here's to hoping.....
