Hi my name is theresa my daughter is also  on Ship 09 Div 279 she left for boot camp on July 5. I also got her form letter as well it came to me in saturdays mail. Also i just got her BOX yesturday and I cried for a little while. where do you live?

Glad to meet you....My son left for bc on July 5 also.  I got the letter and the box yesterday.  I am from Nacogdoches, Texas.  It is in East Texas.  Where are you from?

Hi Theresa and Jana!

My son shipped from Lansing, MI on 7/5.  We live in MI also.  I received his Box on the 8th which was alot sooner than I expected. Then his form letter came the next day.  I have become a post office stalker!  I know it's too soon to get a real letter from him, but I can't help but get my hopes up.  I'm not doing to well with all of this.  I still cry several times a day.  I did open his box right away and washed his clothes and put them away.  Other than that, I haven't touched anything in his room.  He is my oldest (I also have a 16 yr old daughter) and I have no experience with kids leaving home.  The lack of communication is killing me  :(

Stacey

Hi Stacey-

I am doing much better now, but seeing him leave and walk down that hallway to go to the plane in Shreveport was a lot harder on me than I thought it was going to be.  Hopefully we will get a letter soon and a phone call in the not too distant future.  I received the box and the form letter on July 11.  I thought the box might come on that day, but I was really surprised that I got the form letter so quickly, but was glad!!  He is my youngest son, but the first one to leave home.  I also have a daughter, she is 15 now, but will be 16 by PIR.  Maybe yours and mine could meet each other at PIR.  Hang in there and before you know it, we will be sitting at PIR!!

I read somewhere on this site that they usually get to start writing letters on their 2nd Sunday (which is tomorrow) and that for where I live I will typically receive my letters on Wednesdays because I am only 3.5 hours from GL.  My son and the two others that shipped from Lansing with him were the only three on a small bus that took them to Chicago.  He called about 1/2 way through his trip there, we had only been home a short time because Lansing is a little over an hour away from our home.  At that time he was in good spirits and having a good time getting to know those two young men.

We were there to see him swear in and get on the bus.  I can't even describe what that was like for me, but I experienced so many emotions all at once. I'm sure we all did.  They stopped at Cracker Barrel restaurant on the way and got to eat for free.  Then of course about 3 hours later I got "the call" that just lasted two minutes or so.  I was so surprised to get the box just 3 days after he left and the form letter on day 4.  Do either of you know if it is true that the recruits will get in trouble if they receive mail that is not in a white envelope?  My 91 year old grandma can't stop crying because she heard me tell my mom that I read somewhere the envelopes have to be white, and she sent my son a card in a blue envelope.  She is so upset and stressed out now!

Stacey--I don't know for sure about the envelopes, but I have read on here suggestions not to send colored envelopes--pink is the one that was mentioned I think.  I think it is really up to the RDC about whether the SR is teased about it or made to do extra PT.  I wouldn't worry about it though.  You can't change anything now, so just have everyone send white envelopes from now on.  I am hoping that the bandaids I sent my son will not get him in trouble, but I'm sure he will tell me at some point if they do!

Jana

oh my gosh!!! all my cards envelopes have been all colores.  My poor daughter will be killing me when she sees me, if only I would have known this before sending the cards in colored envelopes, I hope and pray her RDC is COOL.

I don't know this for a fact, but I just have read on N4M about sending all white envelopes.  I think maybe with cards it's o.k. because you don't really have a choice with the envelope with a card, but I think I will try to find cards with a lighter color if possible, just to be on the safe side.  I will ask him about it in my next letter.  Hopefully we will hear from them soon.
Hi Stacey I know where Lansing is I use to live close to bay city. well you are lot closer then any of us. have you got any mail from you SR? Is he in a PUSH DIVISON as well?  I understand My daughter is my 2nd oldest and it hard I was use to talking to her everyday or seeing her. No communication was driving me crazy but this pass friday i got a letter so if your son is with my daughter divison you should have got a letter was well. Look we just need to hang in there and stay on this page as much as we can maybe we can set up a time when we can all be on at the same time an chat. That will really help us. P.S. Guess how i got my Name (water works) all the crying I have been doing. we only have 34 more days HOOYAH  GO NAVY!!!!!!     mom
That's funny.  Before my son shipped out, he kept telling me he knew when he left that there would be water works!!

How did your weekend go?  I filled some of my time peeking at youtube videos of PIR - I cannot wait to see this for myself, when my son is involved!  I wrote to him (I mail him a letter six days a week) and today my daughter helped me do a little cleaning in his bedroom.  We didn't do much, it was still pretty hard to be in there.  As soon as my daughter saw I was getting upset, she ran out.  The poor girl is so tired of seeing me cry all the time  :(  She is not doing the best herself, but the last few days she has been better.

Maybe we can spend a little time here telling each other about our recruits??

Yes, I agree we could spend time here sharing about them SR . My weekend was okay I spend most of my day trying to stay busy. I do have another daughter and she as well is still trying to adjust with out her. Today my daughter told me mom she only has 5 more weeks. I got on the navy recruit command this sunday early in the morning and I saw they went to a concert this friday. I thought I had seen my daughter but was not 100% sure. again today they posted more pictures an I was looking for my daughter  but I did not see her.  i was unsure of the divison.
