Has anyone decided were they are staying for PIR?  I know it seems early but I don't want to book a room at the last minute.  Has anyone booked flights yet?

Stlmgnlia, I would definitely start booking your hotel and rental car.  Hotel rooms go quick in Great Lakes. I would google names of hotels in the area. We stayed at the Ramada Inn. It is pretty close to GL base but there are many other hotels.

In with the "Form Letter" you received there should be a brochure with some names of hotels. Just get the names and google them. You can look at their websites and see what the hotels actually look like. When you find one that appeals to you just book a room right away. We got a room with 2 queen sized beds.

Have you booked your flight yet?  Check out flying into Milwaukee airport. It is much less hassle than dealing with driving through Chicago. It is only 40 minutes or so North of Great Lakes Navy base. You just take the 94 south to Waukegan and you are there.

I actually booked at 2 hotels, one one base and one off! But Ive decided to stay off post instead. Gonna buy my plane ticket soon!!!
I booked at the Days Inn in North Chicago - one mile from Great Lakes.  Their rack rate if you walk in off the street is $99.00.  They initially told me the graduation rate was $79.00 per night, but when I told him that someone else in our group had booked at a Days Inn for $55.00 per night, he gave me a rate of $65.  This Days Inn is closer than the other one, which is why he wouldn't go down to $55.00 - but we're really excited to be only one mile from the base.  Free breakfast and parking.
It was your post that I pointed him to that got us the better rate!  Thanks!  We were at the La Quinta near the Gurnee Mills Mall when my daughter graduated.  It's not too bad being further away.  But we have more people to get through the shower this time, so it'll be good to be closer!

We moved from Michigan City in June to Kentucky...Michigan City is 65 miles east of Chicago, we already booked our weekend stay at the Clairion in Michigan City...will just have to drive up EARLY Friday morning I guess..,.,sure the excitement of seeing him will help keep me up!
