Hello All! I'm here supporting my SR! We are best friends that fell in love...the crazy, wonderful thing is that we met this past spring through our mutual best friend! Since I'm neither a mom or a spouse I am sweating out the wait for a letter. He arrived in GL on 6/30 so I believe he is in this PIR graduation group...I'm thankful to learn that letters are starting to come in to all of you! My situation is so different, my SR is closer to my age & is following a family tradition a little later in life than your boys. I know he will watch out for them & encourage them! I'm so proud to be supporting him!

I was wondering when, how we get their official NAVY picture.  My son took a little cash with him, but closed his bank accts here and opened a Navy FCU account.  Hopefully, he gets money from that, if needed, once his first payday hits, if he needs it.

Tay's mom-My son didn't have his debit card with him when he was in bootcamp and I think they took the money out.I know he had got the big package of pictures because it came with the video and the book.As they get more privileges they will be able to get more stamps.I never sent any of that stuff to my husband or my son in bootcamp  they used their own money.Next payday for military they should be getting paid.I forget what it is called but they get an allotment (it may be called a chit or something like that)to be able to buy things they need.I know later on if they have done good they get to go buy goodies.I know my son bought several phone cards because one of the competitions they won they got to go get food and internet. My son got him some subway and got on facebook and made lots of calls.I think that day for him was called sailors heaven.

PHONE CALLS???

How many of you are receiving phone calls from you SR's? I found out my son's DIV (Ship07/DIV271) lost a phone privilege. :((

Rhonda - That's fantastic! I'm so glad you got a letter! Makes you feel so much better. I'm sure you will be reading it several more times before the night is thru. :)

Yes, some do mail debit cards to their SRs. Maybe send it certified/insured for more safety?  I know some are too afraid to mail them. But others have.

I just got a letter from my daughter today.  Carrying it around like a security blanket. LOL  My questions though is she asked me to mail her debit card because she said she will need it to buy pictures and stuff.  I am a little worried about mailing this. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or if it is ok to mail?

She also asked me to mail her stamps because she was not sure if she would be able to get more (or have time to purchase more).  Just in FYI for those who have or have not received letters
