I am a new "veteran" I know a few things and am willing to share what I experienced. My sailor PIRed on June 17.
These few short but long weeks are a real roller coaster ride....emotions are all over the spectrum...success as well as the struggles of boot camp will be part of your life. These ladies will become your friends and prayer partners in all the ups and downs of BC life for your SR. Do not put names of your SRs on here! Refer to them as your SR or your son/daughter. RDCs have been known to read these sites!
Phone calls can come anytime, but not very often.Keep your cells charged...just when my phone was dying my SR called and had to call us back when I plugged it in!!!! There is no specific day. Some of it depends on the RDCs and the availability of the phone banks;others may be using them.
Letters....send them!!! They do not have to be long....those letters are the highlight of their day!!! White letter sized envelopes; not to thick; send two instead; no packages; no cookies; no singing cards....you would hate to have the RDCs make them so something silly for getting one of those! ex:sing the song in front of every SR in their DIV until the battery wears out. They do not have a lot of time to write, you can look for a letter on Wed or Thurs as they usually have time on Sundays to write. Stationary and stamps are provided. Nothing is ever set in stone. What your SR writes may be much different than what another one does. The moms shared on here and I was able to "fill in the gaps" with what was going on.
You will be amazed how much there is to learn...just when I thought I had all this figured out something I never thought of popped up.
Welcome aboard!
Thanks, Deidra. You may want to put the Div # first in your title, followed by the PIR date so that people don't get confused and think this is the actual PIR group.
Thanks for doing this.
fireteamleaderwife- My other son has been in for almost 2 years, and is a HM.
I am really looking forward to the meet and greet on Thurs. night, as well as, the actual PIR on Friday. The PIR is a formal and emotional experience that words cannot describe. My advice to those who haven't experienced a PIR is to be sure and take tissues along with your camara. By now, most everyone should have received their first phone call. For some, it was heart breaking, but for most it was just a reassurance that their SR was doing alright. The next phone call should be longer, and more informative. Next week, you should start getting mail from your recruit. Graduation is just 7 weeks away!!!!
