I got my letter this week end and what a welcome sight that was in the mail box. I think it actually took me a minute or two to pick it up. lol  I think I was in shock I was already getting information from my son. I spent the rest of the night on line trying to get the best deal on flights and writing letters to my son. I'm looking forward to chatting with all the wonderful ladies on this site. I think it will make this adjustment that much easier for me.

hello proud mom! our son is ship 13 div 321 as well. he wrote a note on the form letter we received on saturday. we too have made our hotel reservations. our son called a couple of times while enroute to great lakes and actually was able to call home last saturday night. he called my cell phone and of course i didn't hear it ringing so he called his grandmother instead. she was 'over the moon' excited that she got to talk to her one and only grandson!!!
Hello ibesmom. That's when I got my letter as well. I think this has been a life changing experience for all of us here. My son called his girlfriend on a layover to GL (that kind of stung for a while but I understand). She's a doll and was sure to text me when she heard from him. I wish I could have heard his voice but I'm sure the bawling would have just started all over again for me. lol (I cna laugh about it now) I can so relate to missing the phone call, my son called from GL when he got there but it was the middle of the night for me & I missed the call as well. It was pretty hard to deal with at the time. But at least I know he's there and safe. Glad to hear your son was able to call his grandmother at least. This is all so new for me, my son had been talking about it for a while but I guess I never thought the day would really come when he would leave. I'm so proud of him though. Hope to see you in Sept.
yes I hope we can meet in Sept. as well. i think our son is older (26) than most of the recruits so I am imagining
from all the old 'war movies' I saw as a child that he is being called 'old man'...hehehehe did you read the brochure "From Your Family to Our Family" that came with the form letter? I have laughed myself silly reading the part "Traffic Skills" The Lesson: Look out for the idiots on the road... makes me think the Navy is actually run by some very wise momma...because didn't we say that to our kids a million times??? I never expected to see the word 'idiot' in an official Navy document....loved it !!!!!!!!!!
My son is 24. I am looking forward to meeting you all.
Wow, I will have to go back and re read. I missed that but I did have other family members huddling around me while I was trying to read. lol I can only hope all of our boys are having a good time teasing each other (in a good way) and becoming friends.
you got it right...teasing in a good way and making friends that will hopefully last a lifetime.
Connie : my daughter is not in this division but had to reply when I saw age of your son. My daughter is 27 so she is probably being called "old lady"! However I think maybe they might have an advantage being older and more mature/I am hoping!! ??
Hello seamaggie and glad you dropped in our discussion;) older/more mature??? LORD I HOPE SO!!
actually when he has called and written i do see a BIG difference in the person who left here on 8-1. and before he left i did mention to him that i thought because of his age there would be 'more' expected of him. will you be able to attend PIR? every day bring another roadblock in front of me but i am still able to knock the suckers down and keep my plans intact!!!
Just got the short letter from my Son. He is doing well. Said he was awake the first 48 hours and that getting sleep after was "glorious". :-) He is in the same group with your son.
hello NBPinPR, oh my.....awake for 48 hours!!!! i hope they all got to get some SERIOUS sleep after that!!
Yeah my son said he hadn't had but 4 hours of sleep in the past 2 1/2 days when I got my letter. Broke my heart. I sure hope he is sleeping now. I hope to meet you in Sept as well.
So I thought a week after seeing my son off to a wonderful future, I wouldn't find myself crying....but guess what? I am still crying some days as much as the day he left. Please Dear GOD, tell me this gets better!!! The rest of my family thinks I'm losing my mind. I am really hoping when I finally get to hear my sons voice, it will make it better for me. The not knowing how he's doing is killing me. I've decided this is going to be my advice to new moms, "prepare yourself when your pregant to let them go as adults". This has been FAR worse than any "terrible" age or tantrum any of my kids had.
