Welcom Navy Loved ones! This site is so helpful for support and finding information and sharing information. Being a Navy Mom and Wife is such an honor. It isn't always easy to wait to hear from them, or to know that they have been, or will be in harms way, but we couldn't be more proud of our boys. The youngest boy said recently, "it feel pretty awsome to be part of something so big, and respected"... He is still in boot camp... My oldest has served three years and is a wonderful young man, who now believes serving their country is something all young men should do. We are so proud of all of our NAVY sons, husbands, daughters and wifes, boyfriends and girlfriends... Please share, ask questions, and enjoy the support provided by Navy for Moms.

Hi everyone, I know this is a hard time for you all. I am guessing your SR's have been gone a couple of weeks now and it seems like forever since you have heard from them. Please remember to keep writing. Even those who don't think they care about getting letters end up caring very much. It is their only link to the outside world. When you get your first real letter they may ask why you are not writing. The mail to them is held for 2 to 3 weeks and then they finally start getting it they can get several letters in one day. My daughter got 17 in one day lol and only 1 the next day. Within a week you should start getting letters and by the end of week 3 you should have a phone call. Once you start getting letters the time will pass quickly. They don't have a lot of time for writing and some are just better at it than others. One thing that will help is to fill out a questions sheet. Write the questions you want answered and leave room for them to write their answers. Then have them mail it back to you. You can also send labels with their return address on it and even labels with your address and others that they will write the most. You can even send envelopes with the labels and stamps to really save them time. It saves them a lot of time if they don't have to address the letters. With your next letter send a general letter of encouragement for your recruit to give to someone who doesn't have an family support and possibly won't get any letters. You would be surprised how happy it can make a future sailor. If you have any questions from a mom who has been through this please feel free to send me a friend request and I will help in any way I can. :)

For those of you who have started ordering ribbons from me begin looking for those in the mail within a week. I just got back from vacation and I am working on them daily. I hope everyone has a great week and gets a letter in the mail.

@Chelsey taking the train might be a pretty good option. i was surprised to see that a local train will take one from Chicago right to Great Lakes (i am unfamiliar with Chicago so anything i learn 'surprises me' LOL). Hiking...NOT an option unless you have been throught BC yourself LOL!!!! hope to meet you at PIR ;)

Haha, There probably will be! :) I'm suprised I've survived two weeks. I've been trying to figure out the best way to go to PIR I think I'm taking a train. I may be going by myself so I didn't really want to drive and flying is so expensive. Plus I never have before. I told my mom that I will be there, no matter what, even if I have to walk. Hahah. Central PA to Great Lakes might be a pretty far hike though!

Hello Chelsey and welcome to the group. There are some great people on here that will be a lot of help to you. They certainly have helped me and I, like you, don't know what to expect either. Basically we are all waiting to hear from our recruits and when we do, i suspect there will be a very loud shout out heard across the country. LOL

Hello everyone. I am new to this site and new to the Navy. My boyfriend joined and he is the only person I know in the Millitary. I don't really know what to expect. All i've been doing since he left was writing letters! :) We have been together for six years and plan on getting married once he comes home, (hopefully). I got his box of clothes and his formal letter, but no personal letter yet :/ Maybe sometime this week? No one I know understands what I am going through and it would really help just to have some people to talk to.

Midwest.....Just asked a more seasoned Navy mom and she said that your recruit will let you know when you can send your recruit his or hers contacts before graduation. When you write your recruit, remind them ( several times in different letters) to let you know when its okay to mail them. :)
Comment by Maureen62 Proudmomofasailor on August 16, 2010 at 10:26am
Morninggggggggggggg Allllllllllllllll !! Happy Monday !!!!

Regarding contacts...I will look into that for you Midwest. They are allowed to wear their regular glasses at graduation though. My son wears glasses and they kept his glasses up at BC until graduation. Ill get back to you on the contacts.
No, you will not be able to see your recruit until after graduation. You can visit with them up till about 30 mins, Then they will go and move over to their A school perhaps or could be a grad and go and have to pack up. Your recruit can give you more info on that then I can.
Ktbug...you bet I will remind you and give you any help you may need on the Meet N Greet.
If I may say one thing......Ive been told that its NOT a good idea to have your recruits name in your screen name here on N4M's. That the RDC's DO read these posts and it would just be better if their name is not on your name. Also, dont use the first name of your recruit while posting on here. Just say son or daughter or their first initial.
Your letters should start to be coming in very soon. There is a lot for your recruits to adjust to and processing takes awhile. Once they get on a routine, they will be allowed to write on Sundays, which they have free time until 1pm. They can go to church services, and have time to write, polish boots, iron, things like that. Phone calls will come later on. HANG in there, everything gets easier and better with time. Trust me, I know this as Ive been through it not all that long ago.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day.....I will be here if you need anything. Just befriend me and ask away.
have a great week Pictures, Images and Photos
