Welcom Navy Loved ones! This site is so helpful for support and finding information and sharing information. Being a Navy Mom and Wife is such an honor. It isn't always easy to wait to hear from them, or to know that they have been, or will be in harms way, but we couldn't be more proud of our boys. The youngest boy said recently, "it feel pretty awsome to be part of something so big, and respected"... He is still in boot camp... My oldest has served three years and is a wonderful young man, who now believes serving their country is something all young men should do. We are so proud of all of our NAVY sons, husbands, daughters and wifes, boyfriends and girlfriends... Please share, ask questions, and enjoy the support provided by Navy for Moms.

FYI: Don't lose your form letter! I just read another post of a frantic mom who can't find it and needs the password for the parking/gate pass. Even if you take the motel shuttle to the base, you need the pass to return your sailor that evening, and to pick up/drop off the rest of PIR weekend. Make 2 copies and put them in different places. I put one in my undie drawer because I knew I would open that drawer everyday and not forget where I put it!

TIP: If you change your User ID (in settings, right hand corner) and include your recruits division number and PIR date, it will make locating others easier! Here's how my User ID looked when my son was in bc:

JD's Mom - Our sons are in the same ship, division. I was so excited to already get his letter since he left 8/3 and we got it yesterday. I was expecting Oct. 1 as PIR so was surprised to see 9/24.

JD's PIR is 9/24 also. Sorry. I was excited, and forgot to include that in the last comment!

No box yet, but we finally got the letter. My son is Ship13, DIV 322. I was expecting his graduation date to be in October, so was surprised. Don't know yet if we'll be able to go, but am glad to have the info now, and time to work on it.

Please take a moment to read Wolf Grrl's discussion above titled "My PIR Experience", it's great!

Some of the things she shares you may already know, but what I really like is what she DIDN'T do - they didn't plan every moment of their time with activities for her sailor! She was able to stay in Great Lakes until Tuesday when her Sailor flew to A-School (so she wasn't a G&G).

SimplyJRB - the meet & greet is always the evening before PIR day, it's at the Ramada Inn from 6-8pm. It's free and anyone, any age is invited. If you are a guest of that motel, you get a free drink coupon (hard drinks). I'm sure someone in this group will be creating an "Event" for the M&G soon (look for it on the right side of any page on this site).

Guess what? You guys are no longer the youngest PIR group! PIR 10/1/10 was just started, so you are now that much closer to graduation day. I'm sort of a strange person, but when my son's PIR date finally was posted on the Navy's bootcamp site, I printed it out. I got chills when it finally made it high enough on that list to print the gate/parking pass - and when it was finally the highest date on that list, I printed that page. It helped me see that those 8 weeks really did fly by faster than I had realized.

Congratulations SimplyJRB and SeamenRSJ.. those letters that tell us something about where they are and what to expect are wonderful!! At my oldest son's PIR the performance Divisions were excellent..I can't wait to see it all again for my youngest son!! So glad you had news...

Along with SeamenRSJ, I also got our letter today! Took it Right from the mailLADY....So no kisses (ha-ha wink). He is Ship 3 Div 319 & PIR is 9-24. Is the Meet & Greet always the evening before? Or is it sometimes in the afternoon?

newmom60....my son is part of Div 945 as well, and I know that he volunteered to play the alto sax in the band for the graduations. I can't wait to see them perform! My bud was a DEP and for the last year has taken to heart everything that the previous recruits have told them to expect. PIR should be a lot of fun!
