Well, another quarter weighs in on the homesick issue-
Austin has been unrelentingly homesick since he left for Basic. He came home for a brief leave this month, and it was SO hard for him to go back. He is feeling like the schooling is over his head, and thinks there is a good possibility that he'll flunk out of this bit. (That part is very hard on his pride.) It is very technical, and he is a people person. Diagrams and techie stuff make his brain shut down and his eyes glaze over, so I'm thinking he is probably right. And that's OK. He needs to be in a field where he can be useful and maybe not miserable. But it will not be pleasant. He says, "They hate it when you don't do well in their school". (Subs.)

Then there will be the sadness and stress of leaving his friends for a new assignment, etc. OY. And we thought Basic was the tough part. But he is growing up, facing difficult situations and figuring how to deal with them without Mom to rescue him, and this is exactly what he needs. He is where he needs to be, unpleasant as it is. Nonetheless, please pray for him, as I keep youse guys and your kids in mine.

Katie you are right....Oh and i think your Jake knows my Luke...I asked him and he thinks he does. Of course they don't go by first names so....That makes it hard to figure out.
This too shall pass....we just gotta continue to pray!

HI ALL!
I wanted to add an update from our friend Jamal. He called last night and his girlfriend/Fiancée is doing GREAT! She graduated top of her class in her A school in flight support (I don't recall the actual job title) but she is being stationed in the Seattle, WA area. They are getting married on Sept. 3 and he is SO HAPPY. I told him that I would pass along his news and keep him in our prayers. I asked him to keep us updated too.

Really happy to hear that Luke is getting through all of these challenges. Jordan has had some moments where he gets overwhelmed too. The current school that he's in is the Combat School with the Marine Corps. It's pretty HARD CORE, and he is stressing out! He occasionally mentions how nice it would be to be HOME and not worrying about passing this test or that test. But in the end - he's making some pretty cool friends and he's having the adventure he said he wanted to have! AND he'll be a lot stronger inside and out when it's all done!!!

I'm SO glad that we are keeping in touch with each other. Y'all bless my life. :o)

HUGS

Betsy, your right the waiting and not knowing is the worse for our sailors. Jake had a little melt down a couple weeks ago and we talked for like 3 hours about how he felt he was not doing his duty and how he felt he was wasting his time. But part of that was he has a lot of friends from home serving in other branches of service and they are getting shot at. Not that he wants to go into combat but just that he feels like he's not doing his part. I'm hopeing once he gets to his duty station he will feel like he's doing his part. I had to remind Jake too of the reason he joined.......education, money and a future. ANd your right all we can do is be there as a sounding board and pray a million times a day for them....

OH MY GOODNESS!! Ladies I can't believe what I am reading! Lucas has been Homesick of and on since his PIR! I thought it was just HIM! The very first day I can actually say he sounded "GOOD" was last Friday! (August 13) Then yesterday was his birthday AND he finally started A School and I had his cupcakes delivered! The picture Sherry sent me from Cupcakes Ahoy, was THE best I have seen him since he left for GL! He kept telling me how bored he was, how he couldn't think of anything but HOME and how he wasn't sure this was the best decision for him! I keep reminding him over and over is was a good decision and how he will get the best education possible and get a wonderful job once he gets out of the Navy! Of course I can't even let on how much I miss him and how I do wish he were home (although I know this is best for him). WOW!! Who know how bad it actually was going to be? I truely believe it is the WAITING that puts these Sailors in a funk! Having our support is the best and we are just going to have to be strong for them!
Stay Strong Navy Moms!

Lori, Thanks........its hard because you want your kids to be happy and sometimes it's hard to tell over the phone weather they really are or not. Jake has been sick and not getting enough sleep and really grumpy lately. He won't go to medical because he's afraid it will effect his transfer date.....maybe a weekend home sleeping in his old bed will help. Jake never says he's homesick but I think he is and jsut won't admit it. I have to keep reminding myself this is exactly what they need to feel to grow and become strong men but I still want to baby him.........I hope all works out for Paul to get home for the long weekend. It will be great for him to be home even for a short time and I know you will enjoy every minute. As always you and yours are in my prayers......

Katie, so good to hear your update on Jake. Sounds like he is doing exactly what he is meant to do. And enjoying it! That's great news. I'm sure he will be excited to see you and have you there to celebrate his birthday.

Paul is very home sick from what I hear. He is trying to come home for Labor Day weekend but it's not easy getting all the ducks in order to get that chit. I'm praying he does cause i miss him and it seems he misses home even more.

Marilyn- I've been emailing you but don't know if you're receiving them?

Thanks Marilyn! I would love to get together sometime when we get that way. It's hard to plan in advance seeing we won't know if Jake will be there but I will definately let you know. More than likely we will drive seeing we aren't much for flying and I think its probably only about 12 hours from our home to Little Creek. Although I'll have to check into that a little more. It seems that the Navy is becomming everything Jake hoped it would be for him. It still amazes me how well he turned out. I hope Jordan is doing well and as always he as well as all our young men and women are in my thoughts and prayers.

YEAH, JAKE!! Whoohooo! Very exciting that he gets a chance to be on the type of boat that he wants. I think he'll enjoy it and have some wonderful adventures too.
We are in VA - but this is SOUTH of us a bit. I would be happy to help you figure out the best places to go, and where to fly into and stay...you're not far from Virginia Beach - which is fun! Norfolk may be the easiest place to fly in to. If you come down our way for Christmas, let me know. I would LOVE to make the drive down and see you. (It's about 2 hours for me - but easily worth it!)

CONGRATS on all! And please let me know what I can do to help y'all!

Well, Jake's verbal orders came in finally on Thursday. He will be on a PC Crew and based out of Little Creek, VA. A PC Crew consist of something like 29 guys and they fly out to where ever they are needed to crew a Patrol Craft (sort of like a Coast Guard Cutter) and patrol coast lines in what they call non-hostile countries or wherever they are needed. Jake is super excited to not be on a big carrier and on a smaller craft. School ends for him on Friday August 20th I think and then once his written orders come in he will be on his way. I hope to go down to GL on Friday and pick him up for the weekend. His B-Day is Monday so it will be nice to see him on his birthday weekend. He was awarded a duty day off for an exemplitory act So anyone know anything about Little Creek VA and is anyone close by? We are already thinking about spending Christmas there if he's not off patroling some shore line.

Rebecca it was great to hear from you and I'm glad to hear Jordan is doing well. Stay in touch ladies....
