Marilyn- the trip there will fly by!- coming home.... :( have fun with Jordan!

Dawn- That's great he gets to start- finally. I'm wondering how long P will have to wait. He's also ET and just finished INDOC yesterday. The thought of him just waiting for 2 months- ugh. Is that typically that wait period for ATT to start?

When does raising kids get any easier- ummm when we are no longer breathing?

I sent a box on Saturday via UPS - but that's what I was told to do by my son. There are two addresses for him where he's at - one for "regular mail" and one for USP and FEDEX. I used the one for UPS for his phone and ipod. He was told he can have any food, etc sent that he wants now. But he can't wear any civilian clothes until Phase 2. (grad. A school) And he can't leave the base. He is able to wear Navy issue sweats and t-shirts...but other than boxers...everything else has to be NAVY.

We are going down there (South Carolina) this weekend (14 hour round trip ROAD TRIP!!) and we can hang out with him on base. We can see movies and bowl...not sure what else there is...but we'll make the MOST of it!

It will be good to know when he actually receives his box. I put a few treats in it - but not too many since it also held his phone, and I didn't want it to get messed up!

Hope your wonderful SAILORS are ROCKIN' where they are. I just keep praying for peace and focus for J as he does his schooling. And that he'll be able to keep up on everything that they give them. I know he's stressing....he told me he needed just as much prayer now as he did in boot camp!

All the best~

lukes mom- glad they all arrived safely- what a relief. I'm going to the PO tomorrow and see what my options are. I put everything in a box and it's HEAVY so I don't know if I'll even have options.
I asked my son if I could send food and he said not till he gets to phase 2- whatever that is. I guess he'll let me know. Right now it's just sit tight and wait
for A school to begin. He's at GL and there are a lot there.

what are the food regulations?

Luke got all his electronics by 4:40 cst! Such a relief! Then Verizon had service issues later on that night! All was resolved by bedtime! :)
Lori I am anxious to hear what you come up with. I worry about sending something that isn't signed for and them claiming it was never delivered. Do the "if it fits it ships" boxes have a tracking #?
Comment by lori on June 7, 2010 at 7:47pm
lukes mom- I'd say! that is a very valuable box to just sit around. I hope he has it by now.
Carolyn- If I get time after work tomorrow I'm going to take it to the PO and see how much it weighs and see what other deals I can get. I know my son wants it ASAP but I'M paying for it! And it's just shoes and his hard drives [ which aren't light!] and alarm clock. He has his most important electronics.
I'm taking the box back that they made me 'buy'- I'm using the box that was sent from BC- seems appropriate!
The large 'flat rate' box didn't seem big enough- at least what i was shown. this IS a 'small town' PO. I'll do some shopping around and let you know- thanks for the advice.

o.k. here is my story about shipping packages. Last Wednesday June 2 I got a request from my son wanting ALL his electronics i.e. computer, ipod, cell and few other things he had to live without in boot camp. The package weighed 10 #'s 1 oz. I went to my nearest express shipping store. Since it weighed over 10 #'s it had to be 11 #'s. I had the clerk give me my options of shipping....UPS vs FED EX and over night vs ground. I went with fed ex ground insured for $3000.00 a difference of $50.00 vs overnight and it was guaranteed to arrive by the end of the day Friday June 4. It was signed for but My son still hasn't "received it" as of Monday June 7 @ 11:35 a.m. He emailed me and told me they need to search the box first before they give the box to the recipient. Man this is so nerve racking, especially knowing the contents and the cost of everything.

carolyn, loved the sign! I've got to put my pics up- i've got one of our M&G sign too.
I wen to the post office yesterday and the lady explained that i would be better off getting a [ I had to BUY it!] box from them and then just having it shipped regular postage- of course it will be priced by weight and depending on how long I want it to take that will be extra.
Was she selling me on something I don't need? I asked about the flat rate box and she made it sound like that's not what i wanted. I figured she should know but now I'm confused.

My son asked for his sneakers, sandals, hard drive, and he is supposed to tell me today what else he needs. It's going to GL. I know he can't have much yet- he'll be moving at some point I'm assuming- but I wonder if I can send candy too?
So Carolyn- what's your take on what the PO lady said?
