My news....
I just got a few texts from J (he found an obviously wonderful person to borrow a cell phone from!) and he was able to get his address ( Ft. Jackson, SC) to me. And I was able to go online and get some info on the program and what he'll be doing while he's there.
I haven't had a chance to SPEAK with him yet, but the text read well, and the tone was pleasant. I'll take that!

So...I'm thinking ROAD TRIP in a couple weeks! Anyone live near there that can give me some input? We can always do the EXPLORE and ADVENTURE thing if no one knows anything. I do truly LOVE adventures!! :)

All the very best today~

CermonialGuardMom...it's a HUGE honor that your son is a part of this elite group. What a blessing to him and to his future. These are experiences that he will treasure for the rest of his life. And MAYBE he'll be able to have the perk of getting you in to see him in some of these places too! I know our kids were in the White House so much that they were SICK of it! (Tried to explain to them that some people would think it was cool...but kids don't always SEE things the way we want them to!)

I know that you must be bursting with pride for you son, and you have every reason to be. He must be an outstanding young man and you've done a terrific job raising him.

The no junk food thing is hard, but it's for their own good to keep them healthy and their weight down. If they are like the CG and other services, they have waist measurements and such that they have to adhere to. And an special "honor code" that includes no swearing, smoking or drinking alcohol during the time they serve in the Guard. IT'S A VERY SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT! I don't know if he yet understands just how wonderful this is going to be for him! VERY, VERY AWESOME!
He will do great things, mom! :)

have a LOVELY day!

I am still waiting on any word since the text message I got letting me know he was there! No address...no nothin!

Jill...YEAH, YEAH, YEAH! I'm glad things are moving along for him. I know it's a HUGE relief for you too. Soon you'll be able to "reach out" and connect with your boy ANY TIME YOU WANT! :)

USPS boxes are a good deal - but be sure to FILL THEM UP to get the maximum usage! I also use shoe boxes a lot for mailing. They are sturdy and I can roll, squish and pack quite a bit in one! Then just type on the label on your printer (I do about a half sheet of paper so I can use a LARGE font size! I think it makes it easier for the Postal people to read it.) Then I tape it on....and off it goes! They make just the right size for shipping COOKIES and BROWNIES too! (I did this for my older son!)

Happy to keep hearing y'all's news!
Blessings,
~marilyn~

PS...thanks for the compliment, Lori. But as chessy as she is...I would trade body shape with Miss B ANY TIME!!! Only not plastic. Thought I better clarify! LOVE YOU FRIEND! And you KNOW I am up for adventures ANY TIME YOU ARE! :-)

Deanna- thank you for all your words of wisdom and encouragement these past
weeks. I hope I can do the same for other moms coming in.
And thank you for this last piece of info- I needed that.
All the best to you.

Well Ladies, Your Sailors are off to the next step in this journey. I am going to move on to help other new PIR groups. Hope to see some of you around here. There is always someone that could use help on this journey and now you can lend your experiences. Wish you all well and your Sailors.

Not sure if any of you have the number to USPS for free boxes. They are great to send care packages in. 1-800-610-8734. Let them know you are getting them to send packages to your Sailor.

Just sent my son's laptop and cell via fedex to Lacland AFB in Texas. It cost me more than I wanted to spend, but they packed the laptop in a special box with lots of padding specifically for laptops. I also insured the packages. They told me that it would probably take about 4 days. It is going from San Francisco to Texas. I will be able to track it which makes me feel better. I hope this helps.

Dawn- do those priority boxes come from US PO? How long does it take for the guys to get them- for me it would be MD to GL?

Jill- yeah! so glad you got a call.

Marilyn- you are MUCH prettier than barbie! And having an adventure with you is a blast!

Thanks Dawn....guess I should have known that more patience would be needed for the road ahead! RING, RING, RING....
C just called. He said he tried calling last night but there was a tornado warning and wasn't able to complete his call. Said that they are common there. Sigh.... We now have his address and list of items to send. Said it could be one month before classes start. Guess patience is required across the board. At least we have an address and as soon as we can get the items shipped out, we can be in regular contact. Have a wonderful Friday everyone!!

Thanks sleeplessinchicago! That is reassuring that maybe they have to just go through the regular routine. I would have thought that they could have called once they got their, but as they are now sailors, I guess that all changes. Thanks for your input. I will be sleeplessinFL. :)

Has everyone heard that their sailor has arrived at their grade A school? Or is there anyone else out there that has not heard. Does anyone know how long it generally takes to get word of their arrival? Thanks! I am starting to get anxious as there has been no word yet. :(
