Good morning everyone!!
Wow, I slept like a baby last night! got some new snuggly pajamas for valentines...

Keljacmom, your son is going to love Panama City! I am from there, so If you have any questions, need directions or things to do when you visit, I will be glad to let you know, for that matter I would be glad to take your son to lunch or dinner when I am in town. Anything to show my thanks for his service. But be warned, Panama city is known for its Spring Break activities... Mtv is usually there filming, there are free concerts and other concerts every week. The season starts with spring break and doesnt stop til about October. The base is right on the beach, smack dab in the middle of it all......Bars beach and girls. Your poor son. lol

Bittersweet, you are so right about this journey being a happygolucky one. But I think we all have our down moments. Thank heavens after bc at least we can get phone calls all the time. I cherish the letters that my son has sent me, as I am pretty sure he wont be sending me anymore. It will all be email, phones etc. I will be making a scrapbook and saving his letters.

Colleen, I am so sorry to hear about your son getting a not so good letter. Could she not have waited til after boot camp? I hope and pray that your son can stay focused on the goal in front of him.

Monica, I'm with you girl! My son is being sent to Groton Ct. More freezing snow! Being from Florida, my son had never seen true snow in his life. I bet he is wishing he was being sent to Panama City too.

Angel, Happy Birthday to your son! I hope you all have a great celebration on liberty weekend.

Rickswife- nothing wrong with corporal punishment. Beat 'em til they bleed and beat 'em for bleeding! Thats what my mom used to tell us when we were kids that she was going to do, as we passed that tacky little statement down to our children. Heaven forbid getting in trouble when your mom has a shopsmith and can just go out to the shop and cut out a paddle!

Gspengleri, I am sure you are feeling some bit of relief that at least you are able to get something done. I am sure your feelings of helplessness are subsided at least a bit. Good for you for getting some info from someone!!!! Thats the way to stick to it!

DEERS info. So I got tired of waiting myself and called DEERS and got the scoop.

Here is the links and phone numbers for those spouses that are interested.

Tricare eligiblity info

http://tricare.mil/mybenefit/home/overview/Eligibility/DEERS/Updating

Phone number I called to verify I was in the system

800-538-9552

This number is at the bottom of that web page.

Tricare

https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/appj/bwe/indexAction.do

This is what I learned.
I am enrolled in the system. I can get a card as long as my wife filled out a DD Form 1172 in GL.

The gentleman I spoke with at DEERS transferred me to my local ID card issuer in my town. The Master Sergent I spoke with was helpful and told me she could look and see on the days that they issue ID cards. So we set up an appointment for tomorrow to see. All I need with me is 2 forms of ID, drivers license and ss card.

So, I will let everybody know tomorrow what happens. If you want to know if you have been enrolled, call the above number and you will find out.

Again, this is only for dependents. Sorry moms!!

I am going to continue to write my son until the weekend.

My brother's wedding is this Sat in Atlanta. My daughter and I are leaving Thurs night. I am welcoming the distraction, although I am ashamed to say that
I am not excited for it because all I can think of is PIR. Hopefully it will be a fun filled weekend but I will keep my phone close and have someone checking the mail.

I am so nervous about this next week. So glad I have everyone to share these feelings with! It is comforting to know I am not alone although would not wish these feelings on anyone!

Good morning!!! My daughter got a letter yesterday! I was so glad that he sent one directly to her. He usually addresses them to me, but always starts his letters with Dear Mom, Courtney & Roxy -- (Roxy's the dog)...But I think getting one to her alone was special. She let me read the letter and he is so ready for BC to be over and ready to see us. He can't wait to get to San Diego for his next round of schoools. He sounds upbeat still - but says he's really ready for some sleep. I know they push them pretty hard --- can't wait to see him napping in our hotel room! I'll probably just sit and stare at him like you do when you have a new baby or puppy!

Hope everyone has a great Navy day and bring on those letters and phone calls! I sent a card out today - not sure if he'll get it before PIR, but it feels good to still write to him....it feels like I'm talking to him somewhat....

Being a part of this group has helped me keep my sanity ... thanks guys !!!!
