not to be nosy ladies but for those with concerns just want to remind you they do have to sign in and out with a group... so just remember safety in numbers. Just thought it might ease some troubled minds....

How terrible deanneCA! Did he say what he ate? I hope he feels better now. Dereck said since the navy is paying him, he has to do something while on hold. He said they send him to a secured building, which means he cant carry anything in there, no phone, no book, nothing. He said he has to be there for 8 hours and do pretty much nothing. He did find a pay phone in the building, so he makes his calls from there. I dont know if he was able to bring his wallet with phone cards in or if he had to memorize the numbers. I will have to ask. He said he is about to go crazy from boredom. He found out that dvd's are free in the library and can be checked out three days at a time. He said they have a really good library. (He is a reader) But that if you buy electronics on base, they are really high. He bought a dvd player for 78.00 and said it was like one of the cheap ones you would buy at walmart. He is about to die waiting for his laptop! It should be there anyday thank heavens. And glad classes start next Monday. I dont guess any of you all have guys in Groton Ct???

Hey all, Dereck said he gets to finally start sub school on the 15th. He said his roommates are clean freaks so he is happy. He also told me he didnt know how in the world I used to put up with him and his brothers messy rooms, because the mess really gets on his nerves now. He said he walked into another sailors room and there was even pizza crust on the floor. He said he was disgusted. Said he really likes his roommates, but it costs about 100.00 to take a taxi into town, so he is just "chilling at the base". I mailed his stuff to him (mot to mention the new cell phone I threw in there) and to get it there in 3 days, it would have been 189.00! I told him he was going to have to wait the week it will take to get to him. He said alot of the guys have gone spend crazy. One guy has less than 200$ to last him the month. Dereck said he is too afraid to spend any money for fear that he wont have enough for whatever happens next. I am so glad he realizes that money doesnt grow out of trees. It is sure nice to get to talk to him on the phone. The 30.00 walmart phone card I sent at the beginning of boot camp just ran out.. Lasted a long time! I just cant wait til he sees that cell phone in there with his laptop!

Deanne - my son is in Monterey, which is about 3.5 hours away from us!

hehe, I thought you were the same! Yes, I am very grateful for the phone calls via your son's cell phone! :) His hopefully came today! They should be back from the mall by now. I know that the ship they are in is temporary, but they'll be there for a month or so, then move to a perm. ship before school actually starts. I think they will get a little bored, but my husband is trying to get to Phase 2 quickly so if we come visit, he can stay out all night instead of go back at night. I offered to bake cookies for them too, that is funny. I asked about rice krispy treats and my husband jokingly said, "we are use to the rice krispy treats dipped in chocolate and peanut butter." I thought, well then they are definitely taken care of up there, aren't they??

Hi All - just stopping in to say hello and see how everyone is doing. Seems our sailors have all moved on to their next phase. Glad to hear that everyone is hearing form their loved ones regularly - me too - mine has called several times and has promised to call this weekend again. We will planning to take a drive in a couple of weeks to spend the weekend with him as soon as he is phased up. Quick question for the group - is it okay to send goodies? Navyblumom mentioned sending cookies - I think I will do the same if we can! My sailor would love it ( as I am sure his roommate will as well!).

lots of posts on here.
Hmmm, I didn't have to send my wife's things. I just took them to her!! I guess getting fired was a good thing. I just picked up and headed for Pensacola! Now I am going to stay for a couple weeks down here.

Hope everyone is doing good and I hope all your sailors are enjoying their new assignments. My wife likes this more than GL, but wishes the weather was better, she was hoping for 70 and it is only in the high 50's.
