OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option.

~It is also a good idea to change your visibility settings for your Profile Page (MY PAGE) to "Just my friends".

Got a letter today too!  He is so excited to be in the home stretch and is really focused on what lies ahead.  This is so different than his initial letters.  I can already see the difference in maturity through his writing.  So proud of him just as i know all of you are too!  We are almost there- less than 8 days!  Thank you all for your messages, sharing and supporting of each other.  Wishing you and your sailors the best!

Received a letter today! So excited! It was short and sweet but contained some great info. He's in DIV 200. Who else's SR is in that division? Have you heard from your SR?

We got a letter from our son today, he sounds good he is looking forward to PIR, getting his phone back and getting to drink something other then water to drink. He wrote that they had their picture day and that he got lots of them. He said he won't write this weekend because we will be on our way before it gets here so there's no point. I am so looking forward to seeing him and getting a big hug!
