Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

hi, I plan on calling Sarge. Just wondering should I call him now? My sons graduates 3/25/11. Do you have to walk far? I have heard you have to walk maybe half mile and I have heard some have been dropped off right in front. Of course I dont mind walking I just want to get there as early as possible. Can you tell him what time you want to be picked up?

Question: is he reasonable enough that we could avoid renting a car? Arriving Weds, leaving Sunday. Staying at the Ramada and flying in and out of O'Hare

Our PIR was 5/13/11. We stayed at the Ramada. We took the shuttle to and from PIR. Our Sailor rode back on the shuttle with us. It was great. We were dropped off right outside the gate, passed through Security and were in the second row of the bleachers. No problems. There was a taxi driver who came to talk to us (white van), but he wanted $5.00 a person (4 of us before, 5 after) each way to ride to PIR. I would definately rent a car. There is really not too much to do near the Ramada. If you have a GPS, definately take it if you rent a car. Our rental car, for a 5 passenger car, came to $61.31 for Thursday evening to Sunday evening. We used Advantage car rentals.

you are so correct YMM. My son PIR was 1/21/11. If it were not for Sarge we would have had so much stress on, when to leave, how to get there, time to arrive, where to eat. He was like my own personal travel guide. His name is John Spadaro and he is a former army guy who has lived in by Great Lakes for over 20 years.
He takes pride in his service and truly cares for all the recruits and sailors living on base. I have witnessed him pick up sailors on liberty and dropped them to their destination charging them very little and telling them to be extra careful, use your buddy system and call me no matter what speech. He knows the liberty rules and makes sure that they arrive back to base on time.
I called him several days before my flight and made the necessary arragnements. He said " Don't worry" and I sure did'nt. He provided service to and from the base for my family and I and also recommended some of the best restaurants in the area. And they were amazing! I will post up top.
Just know you will not go wrong with using his service. Tell him Cathy from Brooklyn recommended you and he will know. We still keep in touch! What a great guy!

Sarge is wonderful. I was stranded at the airport and he was there within 24 minutes to get me. He takes great care of the sailors as well as the families. I would recommend Sarge to anyone.

YMM - I would revise the title of this discussion to Recommended List of Rental Cars, Shuttle Services and Taxi. I hadn't thought of rental car companies. Also do you have a list of hotel that have shuttle services (to airport and to GL) ?

Mutchler-- You can call him now if you like, he makes a schedule of what he needs to do to keep it all straight. He is wonderful. If you SR is staying at GL for training you can leave his cell with Sarge and when your SR can have it he will get it to him. Same with his civilian clothes.

If anyone is interested in renting a car the ACE rent a car was a GREAT deal! I bought the extra insurance and two days of auto for less than $60.00!! Driving conditions were not bad BUT I do recommend taking a shuttle from your hotel for the PIR as to not get hung up in the line coming or going!! ALSO a HUGE tip...PAY ATTENTION TO THE PATH YOU TAKE WITH THE SHUTTLE BECAUSE YOU MUST GET YOUR SAILOR BACK... ON TIME!! There were 2 sailors who put a bad taste in the divisions mouth let alone there was not much sleep thanks to them enjoying THEIR liberty the whole division paid the price!
