Shello63, you will want to stay around Great Lakes for Friday night. If you are flying out early Sunday or even Monday (since your son could be there til late Sunday as mine was), then think of the Carlton.

Comment by Bobbo on July 16, 2013 at 12:48pm

Southwest Airlines flies into Midway, which is southwest of downtown Chicago. You can skirk traffic from there and it is much easier to go in and out of. If anyone is looking to fly out of there but needs/wants a good hotel outside of Midway, I give The Carlton Hotel a great referral. It is an older place (motel) that has been re-habbed. Everything is new in the rooms. Yet very INEXPENSIVE!!! And they have a small frig and microwave. The people who run it can't do enough for you. And it's right outside Midway with a shuttle.

I am trying to find the information for my choices of airports to fly into, and am unable to find it again!   could anyone help?  I know O'Hare, Milwaukee?? maybe?  Is there another?  I fly SW airlines and they do not fly in to O'Hare.  Thanks in advance!

Carmen47, There are only three guests allowed per the RTC. I don't know why but the SRs have been given the wrong information in the last couple of PIR groups. The link below is the RTC website that shoes the number of guests.

I just thought I'd check in since my son just graduated from A-school (METC). I know it was hard when your Sailors went to boot camp...and PIR weekend (if you're lucky) goes by really quickly. My son is coming home this next week and other than the PIR weekend 4 months ago, I haven't seen him in over 6 months but it goes faster and faster. Now it looks like he will be in the general region for awhile. See??? Good things do happen!  ;-)

Hi SouthernCalimom. Welcome. I remember being just where you are. My son just graduated from A-school and is now a Navy Corpsman.

PIR = Pass In Review

Its another name for 'graduation' because that is what they do...march pass in review. It reminded me of an old movie. Its quite moving and lots of tears in the stands.
Hope this helps.
