Thanks julieb, I was really unsure about the Ramada because of the mixed reviews but you made me feel better.  I am about 99% sure I am going to stay there now. Where did you get $83 for the hotel, everywhere I'm looking it is$89?

Hi just had PIR on 9/9.  We stayed at the Ramada where the meet and greet was held.  I was happy with the price (83 a night) and the convenience.  Then I read one Mom who wrote that she did not like it>  well I was skeptical after that but it was too late to change the reservation.  I am glad that I did not. IT was clean and comfortable. the staff was helpful and friendly.  the N4M reception was lively and fun and included a free soda or beer for 4.  The breakfast was also delicious and free. There is a pool and a restaurant that gives 10% discount if u r a guest.  It was really crowded on PIR morning.  We wanted to take a shuttle to avoid the car line up to get on the base.  It was so crowded that they had to make 2-3 trips so we decided to hop a cab that arrived.  We had 6 people and it was $30 for the ride and we took the same cab back to the hotel and then drove around after that. Six Flags and the Gurnee Mall are close by too.  We flew to Milwaukee and rented a van at the airport and then drove to the ramada.  The trip was really smooth and a lot of fun.  the time with my son went way too fast too.  He flew out from Ohare  on Sat morning but we got a gate pass and stayed until he boarded the plane. He is now in Va for A school and there is normal communication with him.  we brought his laptop celll and ipod and that fit in his navy issued backpack.  He had so much stuff thatt he could not handle another bag to carry.  Hope that this info helps you to plan your trip.  PIR was AMAZING.   And that first hug is too. ry to get to PIR as early as possible  to be on the main floor. There is a balcony but it all fills up by the time the ceremony starts.

I am still considering Ramada Inn because they have a free shuttle to PIR and they have the meet and greet at the hotel Thursday night. I have read mixed reviews, has anyone stayed there lately for PIR??  What did you think about it?

Yes, Spring Hill does have a shuttle, we took it, definitley the way to go to avoid the traffic/parking.They had a deal with Spring Hill...$3/pp, however I will say the driver was confused and thought it was $6/pp...either way still cheap and the way to go.

Sorry, Wellen, mispelled your name.  In a rush to leave, don't want to be late for work but wanted to get caught up here first!

Ladies, My sailor PIR'd 9/1.  I want to highly recommend Spring Hill Suites for your PIR stay. They take Marriott points, the rooms are spacious, the lobby is nice, there is a bar, pool is inside with outside seating, easy drive to base, Walmart right next door, clean and NAVY oriented.  Ask for VeeVee Brown, she works fulltime at the desk during the week.  847-688-9800. Enjoy the joy of seeing your loved one!

Okay so the pamphlet that you get with the form letter with all the hotels and such on it has something about personalized stepping stones...well I was going to do that for my husband but my mother lost the pamphlet...does anyone know the website to order one?
