No there is no way of knowing if they are extra or not till they walk up to the PIR hall. Then they would just have to wait until all are seated then they can go in. It looked like the extras were sitting in the side bleachers with the band. (My son was up in the bleacher with the band until time for them to perform) The regular Navy band performs first which are great. However, the bootcamp band was great too! I was so proud.

For those who have just gone to PIR's is it true that extra guests not on the list may not be allowed on base to wait and see if they can be seated for the ceremony?

thanks wanda!  so far we have the transportation to milwaukee airport for the trip home taken care of, Sarge is gonna give is a ride but i'll make sure my SIL has the info, he doesn't have a DL yet

FYI... Gurnee Flash Cab will also pick you up from Milwaukee airport or any of the Chicago airports for a flat rate. I got a quote of $57.00 for my husband and I to get picked up from Milwaukee airport to Residence Inn Marriott Inn- Waukegan. It will cost $54.00 from Residence Inn to Milwaukee airport. Also, for $3.00 (per person each way) their shuttle service will take you to the base from Residence Inn and they can also take you to any of the local restaurants you wish to go to. They number is 847-693-4211. I learned about this company through Residence Inn.

I hope this information helps.

no, he's a new navy husband and he is moving to GL at graduation.  she'll be up there until feb or march for school and since we don't know when she'll be allowed to stay off base and he doesn't have a dl i want to get it taken care of before we go up there, we're 1 1/2 hours from norfolk.  anyway, he got the package in the mail today so we're going to take care of it.

I thought all you needed was the gate pass to get on base?
Comment by duhhuh58 Ship 10/Div 267 on July 19, 2011 at 3:14pm
it's the paperwork so he can go get his military ID and the stickers for the car so it can be driving on base

Maybe someone else can answer this question by Duhhuh58...

I'm not sure what "packet",  ID card or stickers for the car you are referring to.
