DJ, Chris is now with VAQ 139. If he's in training, then Winston should be with VAQ 129. Chris is out on maneuvers in Hawaii till end of this month and should be back at Whidbey Island early August. He'll be in and out through the end of the year, but tell Winston to look for Chris! Maybe they'll have a chance to fly together!

Ladies ... have a great week.

I heard from our son. Very short emails from his ship in the Pacific doing RIMPAC exercises. Mostly he wants to hear about the soccer, tennis, and baseball games going on around the world. He claims he's too busy to sit and see/listen to a game. Yesterday we had his wife's baby shower. They're due sometime late October. It's slowly getting closer. Can't wait to greet our new grangbaby girl when she arrives.
All, have a cool weekend!

Ladies, I'm so glad you joined this little group, flyboymom. I talked to Chris about when he would upgrade to the Growler. He said it would be after his next deployment which will be Feb. 2011 for about 8 months. He loves the Prowler, though, comparing it to driving a sports car with your hand on the stick and driving it yourself. He said the new F18's/F18G's (Growlers) are not as fun since they're hands-off on take-offs, the computer flies it.

my son has been flying the Prowler since 2002. he has since transitioned to the Growler, and is in the weapons school training NFO's to fly the Growler. He is at Whidbey Island.

Hi flyboymom. My son just qualified (just last Tuesday) on the Prowler. Probably one of the last. He will transition over eventually but nothing has been said about when, but probably will be one of the last there too.

Hey all you Prowler Moms (all 6 of you). How's it going with your pilots? I also hope that you all have a Happy Mother's Day! Speaking of Mother's Day...got great news! My son and his wife are expecting their first baby late in October!

Today, Sunday, is a tough day for my son. He failed his quals. He had perfect scores for his daytime landings, but did not do well for his night time ones. He nighttime landing started with low visibility and choppy seas. He made a few landings, but just barely under those conditions. He also had to abort landings a couple landings as well and go back to land due to weather conditions and landing gear problems and not enough fuel. He is so down, since this is the first time he's failed. He has to do training all over again and do quals in May. My heart is bleeding for him. He wants this so much, it's been his dream. So, I told him he can do it, be positive about it and prepare for May-especially mentally.

Hi all. Chris is started his quals yesterday! He got 5 "traps" and "takeoffs" before he had some malfunction that had him flying back to San Diego for repairs. He's supposed to go back out today through Sat. or Sun. to complete his quals. Hope all goes well for him.

Thanks DJ, and Congrats to both Winston AND you for surviving this ordeal. We you see him, I bet he'll appear a tad "older" and more self-confident. I know I did when I saw Chris.

Y'all have a nice weekend, too, ya hear?

GO NAVY!!!

Hi Prowler Moms! I've just gotten back from a long trip to the Boston area ... visit with our daughter at Boston College during her spring break. We were also there to help my husband's mother celebrate her 86th birthday. Great trip, but good to be home. Trying to catch up and have spent the last hour reading through "Georgia Moms", "Moms of Officers", and "Naval Aviation" groups.

DJ: how did Winston make out in SERE? Also, my lips are sealed. Keep well.

Chris is now enjoying the sights and sounds of San Diego. He will go out to the carrier on Wednesday to do his carrier quals for the Prowler. So, I'm holding my breath. This time around he has to do a night landing!
