DJ...There's a cute little miniature train museum in Bellingham. Big layout with lots of things to find...a circus truck overturned with lost monkeys, the Wizard of Oz Characters, cowboys and indians, pre-historic bones of dinosaurs, children's "Barney" character tied to a railroad track, etc.

By the way...without going back in the comments...what was the decision on the "Prowlers" vs. "Growlers" name? Does it stay because you can't change it? Chris started his transition to Growlers in January. Loves the new Growler, but still loves the Prowler.

Bellingham is a nice little city! I don't think Chris is playing Rubgy, then. Too much time to commute and play. He's staying close to home to be sure he tucks his daughter into bed each night (since he was away for 7 months and she's only 1) and weekends, there's too much to do around the house with wife and daughter.

You and me both! (don't understand it).

DJ... Sorry to hear that Winston is not flying. It's "funny" [funny...odd, not funny ha ha] to hear that he's playing rugby. My son played some intramural rugby in college. 10 minutes into his first game against a team at Ft. Benning, he was tackled and got a concussion. I wonder if he's playing on a team on base? I'll have to ask him.

Chris is enjoying his training on the Growler! He told me yesterday, that they had him and another trainee "take the jet out for a 1-1/2 hour spin" around the block. He's got mixed emotions and loved the Prowler for many things, but loves the speed and new technology of the Growler.

I didn't get to Oak Harbor for Christmas, but hope to find an affordable airfare so that my husband and I can get there in April to see our grand-daughter (now 16 months old) and Tulip season.

Best to all!!!

We heard about the tragic car pile up. So sad. Better safe than sorry for the guys. Have a great weekend.

I'll cross my fingers for you too, flyboymom. Nothing better than having them come home! Chris did that when he was first training on jets. He flew into Atlanta/Dobbins Air Force Base where there was, at that time, a Navy unit (since closed down).

flyboymom: YOU make me laugh describing Billy's rolling of the eyes and not telling much of anything. Of course, we know they're doing it because they don't want to upset our delicate sensibilities. I tell, Chris, "Honey, I'm your mom. It's in my job description to worry about you". So after that, he'll tell me what I want to know. Like with the G-forces, he  too told me about hic maneuvers, "bladder pants, etc." What I like about the Prowler/Growler, is that they never fly alone. They always have a nice friend along for the ride (EWO).

Like your son, while on the cruise ship our son was managing about 20 fresh out of school plane mechanics. When they got back home, he was put in charge of operations. Don't know if he's still doing that. But, he also likes to volunteer before they tell you (looks good on their records) ... so he went down to CA recently for training on a new bomb (?) they'll be carrying.

They're such good boys, are they!?!  ;)

Flyboymom How you doing? I understand where you're coming from with this flying thing. A friend just sent me links to an Atlanta reporter who was taken up in a superhornet a couple years back during a Blue Angels show. The reporter kept passing out under the "g's". So, of course this made me think of my son and did he ever pass out. So, I had to ask and got an email back from him. No, he's never passed out and funny I should ask because he just had a refresher brief  on high g performance last week! He said while he never passed out, he did get "grey out" one of the first steps to passing out where you loss color vision, followed by tunnel vision.

He should be going up in the Prowler later this week or next. Just yesterday he wrote..."Like I mentioned yesterday, sims are going well.  I'm really enjoying the growler, though I miss the Prowler. You really had to "fly" the prowler because it had a lot of quirks and personality where the growler is a machine.  But I can do a lot more with the growler in performance and just from a pilot perspective, much more user friendly.  As a whole when everything is all said and done the growler will be a lot more capable."

So, I'll keep you posted. How's your pilot doing?   :)

Flyboymom: Thanks for your email and pictures. It's so exciting to see real pictures of the new Growler (other than military issued pics) and your son at the helm. My son has just started Growler sims, but they got sidetracked this week with all the snow they had! It shouldn't be too much longer before he's flying one for real. He mentioned something about going to New Orlands in May to fly off the coast there.

I sent the sleepingdogtv link to my son since he loves seeing flight pictures...especially of WWII. Great link. Thanks.

Blessings to all in this new year!
