Chris' call sign is "Disco". Story on this...Everyone thinks it's because he dances (which he does love to do), but actually he was aboard the USS Ronald Reagan for RIMPAC 2010. Another aviator was supposed to be there, but his orders changed and he went elsewhere and Chris came aboard. The other aviator also had the name Disco and so, they decided to name Chris "Disco" for all the stuff (coffee mug, name plates, etc.) they had made. Here's his Lil' Miss Disco. Notice the disco ball bracelet, hair bow, and bling on her t-shirt.

Diane R my son is quite the wiseguy. He tells great stories of his trips and flights, sometimes I think to get my mind off of how dangerous it really is. I imagine that after 9-11, anytime you see military jets landing at a civilian airport, people are concerned.

Alice and Flyboymom...I just love your stories. My son's getting back into the flying/practicing routine right now, just celebrated his daughter's first birthday last Friday (he miss 10 of those months) and is impatiently waiting till he transitions to the Growler in January. Your boys should ask around for Chris who'll be in for training soon.

Sorry about you not seeing your son in Boston, Alice. I didn't know about the Patriots game, but I forgot the last next to last weekend being Parent's weekend. We were there last year for our daughter's last Parent's weekend at Boston College. She graduated last May. If I had known, I could have tried to match you up with my sister-in-law. She lives in Boston and hosted my son and his instructor 3 years ago during his Prowler cross country flight. They flew to Boston then because he and his instructor wanted to go to a Red Sox game!

Kat- that's where they landed -BWI- DS said he was going out with the Grumman people to dinner last night. He said his boss and the Commodore of the airwing who are traveling with them have meetings today and he said they were above his pay grade! he made a presentation and gave a tour of the Growler in his capacity as training officer, but left the high level stuff to his superiors. My Dad worked for Grumman during WWII , and somehow I think he is watching from Heaven  with pride at his NFO grandson!

DS called from DC yesterday. They flew 2 Growlers from Boston to DC. he was standing at the car rental counter (in his flight suit, because the Growler has very little extra room for suitcases and his CO was with him) the clerk asked "did you see those F18's land? My wiseguy son looked innocently at him and said "no, really?"we never got to see him in Boston, because planning at the last minute and no rooms due to Patriots home game and 2 schools parents weekends left us out in the cold. oh well at least we have this Christmas for the 1st time!

Diane, he is going to land at Hanscom field. Baldwin is on Long Island- we are about 45 min. from Manhattan.

Hello ladies...It is exciting to seem them fly...I saw him do some touch and goes at the NAS but from a distance. However, I did get to see him fly off a carrier -  AWESOME- but only saw him land on the carrier via a TV screen...they wouldn't allow us on deck for landings. Alice, I used to live in Boston, family and friends still there and we're going up in November to see them all. Is he flying to Hanscom Air Force Base? And where is Baldwin NY? I used to live in Rouses Point, NY. So happy that you'll get to see him. I'm also with you in that we got to see our son twice this year, too. He and his wife with baby flew down to his wife's mother for Christmas and we saw them for a few days including the baby's Christening. We didn't get to see him till Aug 31 when we met his ship in HI and got to do the tiger cruise. So, now we won't get to see him till sometime next year. I'm thinking of going out for the Tulip season. Good luck to every one and hope you're having a great week.

DS and his CO  and a couple others will be flying Growlers into an AF base near Boston. going to try and drive up to meet him- we don't get many chances to get together so we jump on it! My husband is actually giving up a golf tournament for this!
