Glad DS will be home.

Fleet Week vs Navy Week? Do they call it Fleet Week when it's on the coast and has lots of ships come in and Navy Week when it's land-bound? We had a week-long series of Navy events last October here in Atlanta and it was called Navy Week. No ships, but we still had the Blue Angels. I hosted a Navy for Moms dinner for 22 parents and 22 Navy personnel (Local NRO) including a 4-piece Jazz band and photographers for the speaker! Our speaker was supposed to be the Master Chief Petty Office, but he had to cancel and we had a RADM instead.

Flyboymom: I hope that Alaska is a fun trip for your son and not work ... sounds like he needs lots of R&R.

OH...I wish I could be there too for Christmas, but we've too many trips this fall...Tiger Cruise in Sept, a wedding in Indiana next weekend, and then a visit to Boston (to see family) first week of November.

Hi DJ: DS's upcoming practice sounds similar to Chris' timeframe so I'm thinking he'll see deployment early next year. Give him my best and hope that he and Chris meet up sometime. It'll have to be on land since they're "passing ships" (or same ship different years).

You're going to love doing Tiger Cruise. I learned SO MUCH! VAQ 139 will be transitioning, finally ... one of the last?... to the Growler this next year. After that, they will possibly be assigned to the Carl Vinson.

Have a great week!

Hi Christy D. ...so happy to see you've joined our little group. I miss you and all the things we got to do on the cruise! Paul and I feel like we're going through withdrawal...it was so great to be on board the ship with our kids and their squadron and some family and friends. So, much so, we watched Top Gun last night!  :D

Flyboymom... at some future time, we should have a Prowler/Growler reunion of the moms in Whidbey!

Y'all have a great weekend!

Glad that all our flyers got home safely to Whidbey.  They had lots of unpacking to do.  I think 3 1/2 trucks worth.

Ahhh....the work up before deployment...we were there. Chris had his workup last October/November (left when the baby was 3 mo. old) and then was deployed on the USS RR Feb 2 through Sep 9. Paul and I just got back from doing the Tiger Cruise aboard the ship. Hawaii to San Diego. What a blast. So proud to see him fly! Back home now, he will finally transition to the Growler come January. I think he'll miss his ECMO/EWO crew of 3 when he goes down to 1.

Prayers to DS and Billy both for safe and good workups. What ships will they be on?

flyboymom: Asked my son what a "Line Shack Division Office" is. Here's what he replied, "That's actually what I am.  The line shack is responsible for prepping
the jet making sure it's ready for flight and then takes care of it
after landing.  They maintain the general state of the aircraft.  They
mainly work out on the flight line, hence the name Line Division.

Hello friends...so enjoy reading your stories of where your children are in their navy journey. So, while I'm 6 years into Navy with Chris (not counting NJROTC or JROTC) I still have a lot to learn.

flyboymom: what's the line shack division officer? I hadn't heard that term but Chris did say he's division officer, too managing 18 or 20 "kids". He's also the LSO, Landing Signal Officer. I think almost everyone eventually does this but he volunteered to jump right in right away. In the old days they were called "paddles" and a group of aviators on the carrier watch and help guide in any pilots flying at the time ensuring the land safely.

I've been getting lots of emails from Chris. I think he's as excited about us coming as we are. The best will be seeing him actually fly. I'm told that there will be 1200!!!!! tigers aboard. A big crowd filled with Navy moms. I want to meet as many as I can, so to get noticed, I designed my own t-shirt. Navy for moms have t-shirts through the 3 online stores listed in the right column. However, I wasn't interested in a particular ship since as pilots they change ships. And I just didn't want navyformoms.com in small text,  So...what do you think? Do you think they'll notice me?  Y'all have a great day.
