That's great that Win will be home for Thanksgiving. We'll see Chris and Nik after Thanksgiving and they will be home just after Christmas and the early part of the New Year. We'll be planning the baby's Christening then. My grandson calls me G'ma. So, I imagine Emma will, too. Or, maybe she'll come up with her own unique name. And, no, it's not funny about the jets. Chris lost the hydraulics on his jet while bouncing a few months back. He couldn't break and didn't have enough fuel to take off and go around again. Thankfully, he was able to use his "tail hook" on the practice runway and caught the cable first time.

Hi all! Congrats to Winston on completing his cross-country. And, yes, he is right that the jets are in poor shape. That's why they're decommissioning them. Hopefully, he'll be assigned to a VAQ that has the new Growlers instead of the Prowlers. Chris will transfer over to the new ones after his first deployment that's coming up soon. I'm counting the days till Nov. 30 when we leave for NAS Whidbey Island and meet our new granddaughter. Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

flyboymom: Yes, Chris will get his daily dose of pictures as I am getting now. We'll be heading up to Whidbey Island early Dec. when he's back home.

Keeping busy helps the days go by quickly. Did you get in touch with the USO? I did a quick search on their website www.uso.org and there doesn't appear to be a USO at the Orlando Airport. Check out the site for some other ways to volunteer.

DJ: How's win doing? Have you gotten up there yet? (Though now is not the best time of the year!)

What a busy week! Tuesday I hosted the Navy For Moms/Atlanta Navy Week dinner with guest speaker Rear Admiral Yurina. We also had the commanding officer, the marketing officer, the Master Chief, and a recruiter from the Navy Recruiting District, and the CO from the USS Georgia submarine. We also had the Navy Week organizer, a 4-piece Navy Band playing awesome jazz. 42 parents and Navy persons! It was fantastic!

Thursday saw me furiously texting...Baby Girl arrived at 9:05 pm at 7 lbs 10oz and 20 inches long. Her name is Emma Reese. They induced the baby since the mom was have minor problems and dad was soon to ship out not 2.5 days later for a 4-week warm up on his carrier. He safely arrived on board today trapping well.

He doesn't look happy to have to give her up and leave.

Saturday and Sunday my husband and I worked at the Air Show Wings Over Atlanta feature the Blue Angels and the Canadian Snow Geese. We were on our feet all day long selling ice cream. The estimates are that there were almost 300,000 people attending! We sold a LOT of ice cream. Some of the profits from our work will go to The Navy League of the US to support their NJROTC and Sea Cadets programs.

What a week. Tired but oh, so happy from all we accomplished! Keep in touch!

Hi Ladies! We still have a wait. Baby Girl is not due till Oct. 24. flyboymom, I would contact a local USO office. Look in the phone book. What we did was join The Navy League of the US. This is a non-profit group of citizens that can support the Navy. There are lots of regional groups/councils. They do fundraisers for the NJROTC and Sea Cadets. They have speakers for verterans. And they provide a few "bodies" to the USO group that schedule the work teams. It was an awesome day and am doing it again in December. DJ...so happy to hear Win is flying. I bet he loved it...and he will like it even more when he's handling the stick. Chris had a lot of fun at El Centro. They would get time off and drive to San Diego and go to the ball games or eat at "Whataburger". Chris just finished a month's training at Fallon NAS (home of Topgun) with his entire Air Wing (1000 people). He's been home for not quite 2 weeks and will leave Sunday to board the USS Ronald Regan for a one month's tour. All in the preparation of their big deployment in Feb. We've got our fingers crossed that he'll be able to be released to fly home when the baby is born. We've got the Atlanta Navy Week planned for October 11-17 with lots of activities during the week and ending on the 16-17 with the Blue Angels Air show. I'm currently planning a Navy for Mom's dinner the evening of Oct. 12. Hoping for 50-75 attendees. If you know anyone in the greater Atlanta area that would like to attend, tell them to go to the Events page (or bottom of the right column of this page) to see my announcement. We're welcoming moms and dads.

Doing great here in Atlanta, but it is oh so hot! All summer. Glad Win is enjoying the area. Tell him to take a camera up with him when he's doing another back seat flight. Chris sent some fabulous pictures home. Has he gone exploring the area? Seattle, Bellingham (nice college town north of Seattle. He'll really enjoy the summer fares that go on on the island and should take the ferry over to Port Townsend (site of an old army base turned into Navy base for the filming of "An Officer and a Gentleman." Chris also said Port Angeles is also nice. Of course, don't forget the mountains and Vancouver.

Chris is currently in Hawaii. After qualifying on June 8 he was deployed on a short mission called RIMPAC 2010 (Rim of the Pacific) is the world's largest multi-national maritime exercise, and took take place near Hawaii from June 23 to August 1, 2010. 14 different countries and 20,000 sailors all took part in it. It happens every 2 years. His wife Nik flew down Wednesday and his ship got back to Pearl Harbor on Thursday. He was give 3 days R&R so they've been sightseeing around the island. His ship pulls out tomorrow heading back to CA.

Saturday the Navy for Moms Georgia Group had a luncheon. It was so nice to see old friends and make new ones. I've also joined the local chapter of The Navy League. October 11-17 we're having Navy Week here in Atlanta. Through this group we've signed up to volunteer at the USO facility at the Atlanta International airport greeting and helping all military going through the airport. I'm also volunteering my time to coordinate volunteers at the concession stand during the weekend Blue Angels air show. So, I'm keeping very busy!
