Any new QM mom's out there? My son just graduated BC and is waiting for A School to start.

Hi BuoyLou - my son says Japan is beautiful and the people are very nice and helpful.  It was a bit of an adjustment being so far from home, but he seems to be doing well now, which is good b/c unless something changes, he will be there for 3 years.  There is a 14 hour time difference, so that makes for some early morning calls!

Hi 3ofusbda - yes, my son was on hold for about 3 weeks b/w boot camp and A school and then was on hold again about 6 weeks after A school graduation in Great Lakes. He came home for 20 days of leave and then off to Japan.  We were lucky; he got two weeks of leave this Christmas, so I just got to see him.  That was really special as he was in boot camp last Christmas and I didn't get to even talk to him until a couple days afterwards.

There will be lot of changes and ups and downs this first year for both your you and your sailors, so just take it one day at a time and reach out if you have a question or just want to chat with someone who understands what you are going thru.  We are all here to support each other.  Hoping you and your families have a happy and safe 2019!

My son just started boot camp and should have PIR about 6/1.  He will be headed to QM school at GL after that.  Any other QM's finishing BC around that time?

Hi - my son has been at A school since 1/20 for his rank of Quartermaster.  He is currently on hold; how long do they usually have to wait to start classes, or does if vary quite a bit?

yelomoon  all QM's go to A school at GL and some of them if they become part of the Riverine Unit and are on special ships get combat training in another location, but the majority of the QM's are done with training after A school is over at GL.  My daughter had several of her classmates that were selected for the Riverine Unit and they have special combat training that is different.
