Downeast mom- Will you be back to see him after Orientation Week?
All will be ok- O-Week is nothing like boot camp from everything I hear. Then he will be more accessible to you :) He will knock your socks off in his uniform though!!!

mrsmajors-

My answer would be yes. My daughter wears glasses/contacts and wore glasses at O-Week. One of the girls there made the mistake of wearing her contacts and ended up wearing them the ENTIRE WEEK!!! Seriously. There was zero opportunity for the poor girl to take them out, clean them, change them, nothing. She said it was one of the worst mistake she ever made. So- wear the darn glasses :) Use the contacts after the return from the weeks adventure.

I was going to suggest that very thing. Start by using a separate room. It worked so well last year that my daughter has already done the same thing this year. Don't be afraid to start her off either- it doesn't have to be you taking over. You could just take a few things that she got (maybe from graduation), like some storage bins, or larger items and put them in that room so that they are "out of the way".

The other thing you need to help her get started on packing is a good list. Especially if she is feeling overwhelmed and scared right now. Guaranteed she can't focus one bit on WHAT to pack for school. I am pretty sure this is what happened with my daughter and she started getting into panic mode. Without a list to keep bringing her back onto point it would have been disasterous (for both of us- lol).

In the end there is nothing you can't get in CA that you have at home so she will be fine. Think of it as going on a long vacation in a way. Once we close the suitcases and head out I usually say to myself- if we don't have it, or forgot it- we will have to buy it there :)

Keep up the good [internet technology] work maggiedaniel! We must trust ourselves and God that we've both done a good job raising our children. We must also trust them. When I listen to my son ... his passion for flying, the work that he enjoys ... I can only think that he is doing what he was meant to be doing, despite any of my concerns and fears for him. Thank goodness for today's communication technology that let's us keep in touch 24 x 7! In my family, we have 3 of the four corners of the U.S. covered. Me, my husband and daughter are in the southeast. Another daughter leaves shortly to go back to college in the northeast, while our son is currently in the northwest. My computer and phone are always with me no matter where I go to keep in touch with them all!

Hi everyone. I've been reading through some of the recent postings and the topic of summer cruises caught my eye. Oh, to be there again. I had the same concerns about my son going off on the summer cruises. Guess what? He had a blast in each and everyone of them despite my worries. Now that he has his wings and will be deployed sometime in October on his first official cruise I'm starting to worry all over again. Where will he go? N. Korea? The Mediterranean? To all you mom's I offer my prayers to you and your sons and daughters.

Just thought I'd say hello to all the ROTC moms since the board has been relatively quiet lately. I'm sure a lot of us are in the "getting kids ready for school" mode right now. Hope everyone's summer is going well :) - Paulette

Hi, my daughter completed her first week of CORTRAMID West. She had aviation and loved it! She flew a MH-60 (helicopter?) and a T-34 (plane?). She was so excited each day after the experience of flying! There seems to be ample time to see San Diego, the went to the beach one day and the Midway another day. She is looking forward to the coming weeks.

Thank Maggie for the update. What a horrible tragedy. I was reading some of the comments on the Navy Daughters board to catch up a little on the situation and can not even imagine what this family must be going through.

The link to an article about it was posted it is:

I think this happened in the town where a couple of my daughter's friends are from. Geez I'm going to have to check on that- they may actually have been friends with him.

I have been reading all the comments about summer cruises as we prepare for my daughters cruise this month, so much to buy before hand! She is concerned about passing the physical part of the cruise because she had knee surgery last year. We were turned down for a brace by the insurance because they said it was for recreation, but her physical therapist worked extensively with her to prepare her for running, she hopes it was enough because her summer cruise is beginning next week. Any idea just how hard the physical part of the cruise is? By the way, she is going to school on the East coast (Fordham) but we live on the West coast and her cruise is on the West coast. She is very excited to see her friends from New York flying out for the West coast cruise. My prayers are with Michael and his family.
