Hi all,

Just dropped in to let folks know that my daughter has safely returned from Haiti and doing humanitarian relief efforts. I'm so proud of her shipmates and the Navy for actually being, A global force for good!! Thank all who kept her in your thoughts and/or prayers. I can now breathe a sigh of relief....at least until March...lol

Hi all,

As I pray for all our troops and sailors I hope you all will join with me in prayer for my daughter Lauren and all her shipmates as they head to Haiti this week to provide Disaster Relief to the island of Haiti.

He can also be involved in -or even lead- a *peaceful* counter-protest.

The sentence Speaking at an activist or is a huge no-no should have read Speaking at an activist event or political rally in uniform or even taking part as an audience member in uniform is a huge no-no

Military members can be part of political actions and movements, as long as they are not in uniform and do not use their military affiliations.

For example, a number of active-duty friends of mine marched in the "Godless Americans March on Washington" a few years ago and were even guest speakers. They could speak as a member of our group, the Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers (MAAF), but they could NOT wear their uniform or be introduced as "Staff Sgt. So and So."

Kathleen, our president and active duty member of the Army (she is a military police officer at For Hood and was an investigating officer in the wake of the recent tragedy there) was introduced before her speech as "President of MAAF."

Speaking at an activist or is a huge no-no. A year or two ago an Army general was disciplined after speaking, in uniform and using his military title, at a political rally. It ended his career.

There are a few limitations on activism, including the Nazi Party, the KKK and some other organizations that involve racism, violence or promoting illegal or unsafe conduct.

You right on with that NavyMomXXXY. Our son and his family have been able to come here to visit once or twice a year. We try to get to them once a year but with sea tours and his IA it's had to plan around him. We actually see his wife and kids more than we him.

That's a handsome young man, Laura! It's no wonder that you are so proud of him. We just flew back from Canada last night. The family is doing well through everything. Thank you for your condolences. We are still hopeful that Jim will be able to join us in BC in February. He's out on the boat for a while and may know something closer to the holidays when he returns. In the mean time we just wait.

Very Cool, Laura! Please post photos if you can make it. I had actually thought about trying to head over for that but my husband's mother passed away last Wednesday evening in Edmonton Alberta and we are Edmonton with the family this week. And now we deal with yet another down side of our son's chosen profession. We are trying to plan a service in BC but Jim's squadron is preparing for deployment. We either plan around the squadron and the ship or we plan around the rest of the family and he is left out. I'm just venting...
