My sailor will be starting "A" school in September and so I was wondering how people have gotten married there. Any information will be great, but I would specifically like to know when they get enough liberty to do this.

Thanks :)

Congratulations!!

Unfortunately I don't think you'll be able to plan anything until after he gets there and finds out when he will class up and what his graduation date will be. After graduation will probably be the best time, provided he doesn't have any setbacks with testing or medical. They don't get a lot of time off base during A school.

Thanks Holly!

I'm just trying to get all of this done before he gets his orders so I can go with him wherever he gets stationed at.

I think they accrue 1.5 days/month of leave time, so he should have some time he can take before he has to go to his duty station, but he could ask if he could take some time over labor day - they don't have class on that Monday. But, he may have watch duty during that time that he can't get out of.

Holly, her recruit does not have PIR until 09/12/2014 so Labor Day is not possible.

arwenevenstar3313, your then Sailor will need to let the command know that he plans to get married and then find out when the best time to marry will be. With the change in when orders are given it is very important that he let them know at INDOC and get things in place for you to marry as soon as it can be arranged. The best time to marry used to be at about the third or fourth week, but I'm not sure when it would be now. See Break down week by week.

Please post how things work out for you and your fiancé so that others will know the process and so that the information will be in one place. There are scattered posts within the Comment Wall for the group about Sailors getting married, but there is no longer a discussion with the process--there once was one, but the member who posted it must have left N4M.

At one time a chit was needed to get married, but that may or may not be needed now. There is no waiting period to get the license since he is active duty military. You must pay cash when applying for your marriage license so check ahead of time to be sure that you have enough cash on hand--it's around $66. Both of you may have to take a pre-marital education class; it has been required in Texas in the past, but I think the class is just suggested now. There used to classes on Lackland for Sailors who planned to marry; I think the chaplain did them. You need to check on that in the county that you plan to marry in (San Antonio is in Bexar County)--by taking the classes you may qualify for a reduced fee for the marriage license.
