Can't say enough nice things about the USO folks at airports. They have been so amazing for our sailor in so many ways.

do all sailors leave from ohare or sometimes midway when they go to a school

When my son graduated in October he went to San Antonio via O'Hare.  They were taken to the airport at 2am to await their flights.  His was at 6pm also.  There is a USO at the airport where they can relax, use computers, watch TV or rest on cots that are set up.  They also have sandwiches beverages and snacks that are free to military (they work on donations). It really made the time spent there more bearable for the new sailors.  Families are allowed to stay with their loved ones at the USO but, the food that is available is only for the sailors.  So, if you plan to go I'd suggest you bring your own food if you plan on staying a while. Congratulations to all of your new sailors!

CTsailor, A School is 7 weeks once your Sailor classes up.  Check out Break down week by week (clickable link) in the Discussions above for more info.

CTsailor, that is the best thing to do so you can spend the most time with him.  You might send your boyfriend a note card so he can write down the flight details for you when he gets them so he can give it to you at PIR.

I'm hoping he has a late flight so I can spend the day with him at the airport... I booked my flight back for 8pm Saturday just in case :) I know some occasionally leave on Sunday but that's not usually the case..

CTsailor, yes, the airport can vary.  Even Sailors going the same place can be on different flights.  As you said, it depends on flight availability.  Only your Sailor will know his specific flight details.

Chris had 3 or 5 in his group, 15 in the airport waiting. They (brass) told them to bug out at 02:00 for a flight at 06:00.
He called us at the hotel at 04:25 saying flight was really at 18:00! Were we still @ Great Lakes & Could we come by Midway & keep him company. Oh yeah, & feed him. He lost 15 lbs which he really couldn't stand to lose! But...we got an extra half day to visit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
