Does anyone know if there are churches near where the Navy trains on this base? I've looked for churches on base and they are all on the other side of the base for our guys. Busses don't run until certain times so they can't get there unless they walk like 8 miles.

We drove to San Antonio from Minnesota, we stayed right on base at a hotel there very nice and inexpensive so we picked up our base pass when we arrived on Wednesday evening.  Our sailor gave them our license number and info ahead of time.  So I'm not sure about the cab thing.  I don't know the name of the building, but they were doing the OC spray right outside of the building it was held in. So your sailor may know the name of the building and there is a entrance gate very near that building.

Thank you Schafam.  Did you have base passes sent to you or did you have to go to the visitor center to get them?  Can you take a cab onto the base to the ceremony?  What building is the ceremony held in?

When we went in October it was 9am on Friday morning, small very nice ceremony.  The CO walked around and introduced himself to everyone, told us to stop them if there is a picture you want they will back up and do it again.  Then after the ceremony our sailor was free to go with us and we went sightseeing.  We had to say our goodbyes that evening as he flew out early Sat to Gulfport MS for more training

Hello everyone!  My son arrived 1/14/12.  Expects to start class this upcoming Monday.  Thanks GrammyK for the info.  It's exactly what my son has stated.  He's just getting acclimated, watch, etc.  I'm gonna be checking out the week by week breakdown.
