Michele67 - hadn't thought of that. *I* think its a great idea, but I doubt I could talk him into it. He'd be too embarrassed to ask a stranger to take pics of him. (Me, on the other hand... lol!)
I really appreciate your thinking about it for me; but I'm sure that I'll hear from Peyt's Mom! :-) I'm just being over nervous mom here!

Brenda Sue - not that it matters that much, but I know it was leave because he lost 2 days of his accumulated 14 days of vacation leave. :(
But he still gets his weekends off to do what he wants....mainly leaving to go to the local Catholic Church, and a special kind of gym to get him built up enough to be able to lift his dog over a wall in K9 C-School, where he's off to as soon as he graduates.

If your Sailor left the base for the weekend - it probably wasn't "leave" but it was "liberty".  Leave is kinda like vacation days and they get so many a year.  Liberty is like working Monday through Friday and getting the weekend off.  My son is off every weekend - but he can't come home (20 hours away).

TheWife - I'm not sure what happened... Peyt's mom offered to take some pics for me, but I haven't heard back from her. I'm sure she's busy planning or something.
May I ask if you'd be willing to take a couple of shots of my Sailor, if you're going to be taking pics anyway? I would be so very grateful...!

TheWife - yes, Michael had to fill out CHIT papers ahead of time, all I meant was that he was able to get leave for a weekend, and didn't have to go back to base for Muster until his leave was over.... But he graduates in mid-November, too.

Regarding leave at A school, (just went thru this myself) if the Sailor has been in long enough, and they get they're CHIT approved, they CAN get leave. My Sailor spent the weekend with his grandparents at a hotel...
As for leave for the holidays, that is doubtful. Thanksgiving and New Years is a lot more likely than Christmas, though. Good luck! :-)
