Hi Everyone

Just got home from San Antonio!! Our son had his pinning on Friday.  We stayed on base, at the Gateway Lodge.  It has refrig, freezer, microwave, free wifi, nice place.  $117 for 3 nights.  Can't beat that.

We got on base at 9pm on Wednesday evening.  Our son did not have to be at the gate, but he had to register the names and license numbers of the people coming on base.  So we pulled into the visitors building show our licenses and pick up our pass.  If you have to do this make sure and tell them right away you are there for someone in the Navy.

It is a big place, many places to eat, places to shop for anything, some Navy stuff, but of course mostly Air Force.  Everyone is very polite.

If you had a sailor doing OC last Friday we saw that going on.  It takes places right outside of the building where the pinning ceremony takes place.

It was formal, yet personal.  That incourage you to stop them if there was a picture you wanted to take.  We were able to go on stage and take pictures of the whole group when they said their oath.

If anyone is heading down there and has any questions please either ask to friend me or ask here.  I would love to share my experience.

Hi Lil Angie  Congratulations!!  My son's PIR is next week and headed to San Antonio the same as your son.  I was wondering did your son leave from O'Hare and was it a morning or afternoon flight?  Were you able to wait with him at the airport?  Also did he say when he was starting A school or are they waiting for additional sailors to arrive in the coming week(s)?  Thanks.

Cluebee - thank you so much, that's a huge help! I always thought Skype was just a way to chat in real time... (erf!) this is going to be great! *excited*

Well, my son just did his big test & the OC course. He got a 97.8% on the test, & finished the course in 2 minutes! He's in the top 10% of his class!! I am SO proud of him! His buddy was taking pics during the entire course, and Michael put them up on FaceBook.... Absolutely hilarious looking! Don't get me wrong, when I saw the first pic of his poor face, my heart just cringed... But then after that, the silly boy was *laughing* (& crying)
But I can say that we're both glad it's done & over....!! 

Miss Suzanne,

Yes Skype is a video conferencing software. If both people have a webcam and an internet connection, you can talk with video for free. It's pretty amazing. It's how we keep up with our friends and family who live all over the place.

Hope this helps! :)

Hello ladies! new to this group, so nice to meet you all! My son, Michael, just started on Monday, and I know that tomorrow is OC day. I think I'm more worried than he is! Especially after reading some of your posts! O.o

cluebee - I've never used Skype. Is it supposed to be able to let you talk face-to-face?

Thanks!

To bad I'm in San Antonio right now, tomorrow is pinning for our sailor.  We are staying on base, nice rooms, it's like a city all by itself.  Waiting to see our sailor, he is handing in gear and books.

HOWDY!!!  Calling ALL Navy Moms!!!  An Admiral wants to have dinner with some Navy Moms in San Antonio, Texas!  Anyone interested???  Come one and Come ALL!!!

We can choose between Wednesday, October 26 or Thursday, October 27.  Which evening works best for most of you?  I have to let my POC know by this Thursday - so reply and pass the word!

Also, any mom in the San Antonio area that can recommend a restaurant to meet at?  If so, be my "friend" and I'll call you with the details.

Thanks!
