Cack! hahahaha - summer is NOT a good time to see Texas (especially San Antonio)!! I did attended my sons A school graduation (but it was in Virginia) - and though a small ceremony I was so glad I did.
If you do want to tour the Alamo - please be sure and see the IMAX film in the Rivercity Mall right across the street first. It is called "The Price of Freedom". It tells the story of the Alamo and makes seeing it much more interesting. The Riverwalk is really nothing more than restaurants. I had a link to San Antonio - I don't have time to find it this morning - but there is lots to do in the city and the surrounding area.
Cack - I don't know if you checked out the above link for Graduation info, but there are a couple of links for a hotel list - and Howard Johnson, which is about half a mile from base (Where my hubby and I stayed when we went to our son's graduation). A-School graduation isn't as big of a deal (It is, but it isn't as formal, with very little "fanfare"), and a lot of sailors don't have family attend, so there isn't a lot of info that I've found.
If anybody has anymore info to add for the place(s) you stayed, please post it in the Graduation link above ... that will help those who are planning to attend graduation, find the info more easily. THANKS!
Congrats to the new arrivals on the huge accomplishment called Boot Camp - and Congrats to upcoming MA - A-School grads on completing the next step!
Hoo Yah!
