Just heard from my son.  Graduates A school 4/11 and is then off to Japan.  Another guy from his class is going there also, so at least he'll know one person.

bn4givn, you are in the north part of Texas, right?
Some Navy moms are getting together south of Houston this Friday night if you want to join us!

My son didn't get to come home from A school until about 6 weeks after graduation - so. . . .

We are in TX so we could go get him whenever he gets leave. Of course we have to get him through boot camp first!

That sounds cool. Kind of like "hometown boy makes good"...

Hometown Area Recruiting Program (HARP) and Recruiting Assistance Program (RAP) duty are when the Sailor works with a Recruiter between A School and the first duty sation.  By working with the Recruiter, your Sailor can get credit for about 5 days and it will get credited back to the leave time and have it for later if the Sailor remembers to have the Recruiter sign off on it and the paperwork gets sent in.

That is where they work for the recruiter (usually get dressed up and go to the high schools during lunch).  It does not count against them as part of their leave if they do.
