Lemonelephant- thanks , what is RAP or HARP?
Comment by lemonelephant on March 16, 2011 at 8:49pm
bn4givn, Yes, your Sailor will most likely be able to go home for a couple of weeks before going to the first duty station.  Have your Sailor consider doing RAP or HARP duty with a recruiter while home and getting credit for 5 days.  Be sure that the recruiter signs off and sends in the paperwork.  Travel to and from this leave is paid for by the Sailor (or the Sailor's family).

Do they normally get some leave time after they graduate from A school?

he graduates 4/1/11 from Sa and then he will be home for 15 days. I am not sure the exact date that he has to check in but I would imagine it is soemtime around the 15 or 16

MAs Mom -- i have copied all of your info on King's Bay area places to go and Charleston.   Now all I need to do is map out MY plan and then wait to see what the NAVY plan will be as far as their schedules go, then look out South, here I come!!  : )  Thanks for the good scoop on the areas! : )

tennismom - there's a link above with some basic info, but I can tell you there usually is a LOT of traffic getting onto base, especially on Fridays because of the Air Force graduations.  (There shouldn't be too much coming out of San Antonio towards the base, but not so sure about traffic heading towards SA)

Graduation is very simple compared to PIR.  The CO is extremely pleasant - he walked around and shook everyone's hand and welcomed them.  The Sailors respected him because of his caring personality, too.  As far as what to wear, business casual, Sunday clothes or even Jeans and a nice sweater or blouse would be ok.

Oh!  Your Sailor can also choose someone to pin his/her badge on them during the ceremony (And this was quite informal as well - my profile pic is of my hubby pinning our son's badge on during his graduation in January).  Don't forget your camera - and have enjoy!  Oh yeah - and CONGRATS to your Sailor!

Hi everyone!

Our son is graduating on Friday from, so we are heading to San Antonio for graduation. Can anyone tell me what the traffic is like going to the Friday morning graduations? Is it anything like PIR? We are staying about 10 miles from Lackland base if that helps.
