yes Jennyd there is a Gateway Inn there, but you need to have him check for availability. They have a lot of the guys staying there .That is where my Son has to stay while he is in the Canine school on base. He can meet you at the gate and you can go in with him. You will also need to go the visitors center and get a pass so you can get into the gate without him. Read my blog about the directions. It is CRAZY if you go to the WRONG gate. They are at the gate off 410 south. near the Mcdonalds and Auto Zone. Good luck to you !!

jennyd, yes, you can stay at the Gateway Inn or the Gateway Lodge at Lackland AFB by having your Sailor set it up and being there at check in with military ID as you say.  This is required since Lackland is not an open installation and visitors must have a sponsor.  I haven't gone down there, but several moms/spouses on here have.

I don't think there is a Navy Lodge on that base, since it is an Air Force base.  That would be the case if it were a Navy Lodge.

@mountainmama im sorry to hear your boy has strep and has been sent back a week, i hope he gets better soon!!

also ladies i have a question, i plan on going up to texas in a couple weeks to visit. i have read that if my sailor books the hotel for me on base and is there with me at check in then i am allowed to stay on base? is this true? Also, can i get onto base if he meets me and shows them his military ID and i give them my ID? i am just trying to get this all figured out before i book my flight! thanks :)

Well I got a call tonight and my boy has strep throat and has been set back a week.  I was a little disappointed because he was due to graduate when my spring break started so I would have been able to be home with him for a week, but oh well.  It's all good!  I'm just thrilled that he finally got his phone and we can call and text and all that good stuff!

Brenda Sue, so happy for you, I'm hoping my son calls tonight.  And the ships are in my prayers...

I love starting each day reading the comments from everyone. I have one of those extremely quiet sons. Learn so much more from other moms. Lets me feel more connected - have a great day Moms!
