I will definitely send underwears probaly stay away from cartoon characters on them? LOL I saw he posted he was on his way to Texas 11 hours ago on FB, so that is a good update.

Proud mom of a sailor~ My husband just phased up this past weekend and yes it does have to be okayed by an officer. But as I've been told by my husbands friends who phased 1st as long as you pass your test you're in the clear. And my husband was able to get a 3 day pass to come home on the 4th before he had phased, however I had to sign him out. They are not able to drive so someone has to be there to pick them up.
adamsgf~ My husband's PIR date was the same as your bf's. I wonder if they know each other? My husband was in DIV 212. What about your bf?
Samantha~ I will tell you the first few weeks are the worst, but I will also tell you that this site will help more than you'll know. I logged onto this site days after my husband left and at the time I felt numb and didn't know what to do. Talking to other people in my same situation will help you so much, I made life long friends. If you haven't joined a DIV group I suggest you do asap. You and those ladies will bond no matter what age or if your mom, wife, gf or sister. Good luck to you and if you need ANYTHING I will do what I can to help. I remember that empty feeling of not knowing.
Pepecola~ I am glad I could help and yes I feel so luck that I am close to my husband. And I think you're right about your son, he will learn alot being on his own. My husband has learned a lot about things. And he appricaites me more now that he has been gone a while. If you would like I can make a special delivery to your son of goodies with a big bow. Do you know if there is anything he may need that he doesn't have? Phone card, razors, DVD's? I would be glad to make a gift basket for him. I am not able to visit with them in the barricks, but I could have Josh find him and say it's from you. Just let me know. Like I said I am heading that way on Friday and so far I have my family and 5 other friends making goodie baskets for 50 of our Sailors. Oh and a big thing I think I forgot to mention is that they guys REALLY want their own undies...lol. That was the 1st thing my husband asked me to bring. They do not sell them at the minimall on base. And yes, I would love to stay in touch. Even if our guys are not in the same class it's good to know the people around them are supported.
~ Talk to all of you ladies soon. And if any of you would like to make sure one of your Sailor's receives a good bag for sure please message me and we'll figure out a way for sure. I have Josh and a few of his friends looking for guys who do not have family close and may really need it, but what's a few more!!!

Joshwife- You are awesome! Thanks for the details information! Lucky you is right so close by! In some ways I am okay with him being far away from me, it's good for him to be on his own. But Thank God for people like you who are kind enough to make our boys feel a little like home with baked goods! I am glad to hear he can at least enjoy some of the time on his own to get out! It looks like by the pictures on this group that they do have fun! Let's keep in touch even if they are on different schedules. I will let my son Corey know about your hubs Josh. Have a great day!!

SamanthaH~ Most likely he will not be a grad n go. My son was not a grad n go and we got to spend all weekend with him. Don't worry as you will hear from your bf soon, he is just trying to do as he is told. The first week is p-week( known as Processing week) then you will hear from him about the third week in. Hope this helps, but if you have any more questions please free to ask I will try to help you with it...

Proud mom of sailor- my bf had PIR 6/11/10 and just phased up to leave SA base with curfew this past weekend, and it did have to be approved/signed off on by his officer. So maybe your son will get liberty this weekend coming up! My boyfriend went to Riverwalk with bunch of friends said it was good time...

I know there is no way of actually knowing for sure but I was wondering if someone could share their experience with me. My boyfriend's PIR is 8/20. He arrived in great lakes June 28th. We have yet to hear from him. His family and I are wondering if he will be a grad and go since his A school in in San Antonio. I was wondering you any of you could let me know if your sons or husbands were grad and go's after their PIR. His recruiter told us the odds of him being a grad and go are slim to none that it doesn't happen often but it seems to me that it happens more often. Would appreciate any insight!

My son is there right now, his PIR was 6/18/10 so he has been there about two weeks but hasn't gotten liberty yet. He said something about a jqr test he had to take & the officers needed to sign off on so he could go off base. Has anyone heard of this test & the fact that he has to take to be able to get off base?

Pepecola~ I do live in Fort Worth Texas so I am about 4 hours from SA. We really lucked out that I am so close. We have 3 kids so I am able to take them down for the weekend. My husband has been on hold for 3 weeks so during that time he has been showing recruits coming in the base. By the time your son gets to SA Josh will be in class so different recruits will be showing the ropes. I have been trying to take baked snacks and take helpful things to new recruits to make them feel more at home. I know how hard it was for my husband to be away from us I can only imagine younger guys away from their mothers. If he needs anything let me know. They have a lot more free time once they get to SA, they can roam where ever they want and stay out a little later. They can also call home when ever they want (which I love). So as soon as you get an address you can mail all of their things (cell phone, laptops, clothes). Until they are in week 2 of class they are confined to the base, but there are a ton of things to do and the base is VERY up to date. I read on this site it's like being in college and that is very true. Very close to their living quaters is a mini mall and they can bus to a bowling alley, bx, library and pool. They also have DVD and CD players in their rooms if you'd like to send movies or DVD's. I hope I didn't ramble too much and maybe I helped a little. Enjoy your last day with your new Sailor and let me know if you have any questions. I'll be glad to help!!!

Hi
I am in Waukegan, IL right now as I attend his PIR on 7/9. Today is his last day of liberty time with us. He thinks he will be starting his class closer to next week? I learn more from this site than from him. lol That is amazing that you have gotten to see him that many times. My son did well in bootcamp, he wrestled for 3-4 years in high school so he was prepared for the PT. He also scored well on his test. I will keep in touch once I learn more from him. Do you live near SA?
