Eric's wife - here is a response:

I think even a higher rate on a rental car would be cheaper than taking a taxi. I am assuming he is at Lackland which is in the far south west area of the city. I looked up taxi fares and the fare just from the airport to Lackland is $43.00 and that is just one way, one trip. Then they would need a taxi anytime they wanted to go anywhere. How old is her husband? I seem to remember my son's friend rented a car and they gave him a military discount.

hm - I don't know about from the base to the Riverwalk (where there is plenty to do) but once you get dropped off there you could walk all over.
Then, from base to Sea World - one ride there and one back.
Probably taxi?!!?!?!? I don't have much experience with taxi's.

When are you going? I need a vacation - and could come be your beck and call taxi!! :)

I'll go ask my Texas' moms! Be back later!

So my next question is...which do you think would be cheaper..to rent a car, or to take a taxi everywhere? keeping in mind that I am under 25 so it's usually more expensive for me to rent. I think i've only been in a taxi once and it was in vegas and the driver nearly had us killed! lol

Things to do in San Antonio: For the best barbecue in San Antonio go to County Line. There are 2 locations. One downtown on the Riverwalk and 1 on IH10/Dezavala on the Northwest part of San Antonio. Bill Miller BBQ has good food. However, it is fast food bbq. There are Mexican food restaurants everywhere, and decently priced. For a trendy feel, definitely go to the Market Square/downtown area and try Mi Tierra, La Margarita, and Pico de Gallo. Good food, good prices. Also great to take family, etc. If anyone has questions, let me know. We live in San Antonio (natives). My son is currently in boot camp. He will head back to San Antonio for A school next month.

TO THE WIFE HEADING TO S.A. --- I've lived in San Antonio for 30yrs. I'd love to talk to you personally and find out how long you will be here and what things you and your hubby want to do. San Antonio is known as "Military Town USA", so there are plenty of things to do that are free or seriously discounted for military members. If you go to my page and leave me an e-mail address, I will send you my phone number (or I can call you - it's free for me to call). Look forward to hearing from you...d

haha - I find it funny that they both mentioned the Alamo! If you do want to go see it - be sure and go to the Rivercenter mall across from it and see the Imax film "Price of Freedom" first. It makes the Alamo much more interesting!
