I think that "colors" is the raising and lowering of the flags (that's my guess because of color guard).

I really have no idea Tess! LOL Just know that my hubby did "colors" yesterday morning and again in the afternoon! He told me something about a checklist of "watches" and different things he had to do before he can phase up after this weeks classes :) Hope this wasn't too confusing!

Here is one of the rules concerning saluting for those in the Navy, so yes, the Navy does say that our sailors/officers are to salute officers of ANY branch of the armed forces:
Give hand salutes, and other marks of respect appropriate to rank, to officers of the armed services of the United States in uniform (and in civilian clothes, if recognized) and to high-ranking dignitaries of foreign nations. Salute the occupant of automobiles that display the flag of a high-ranking dignitary. Extend salutes to officers of the Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard and to foreign military officers whose governments are formally recognized by the government of the United States. When in uniform, extend salutes to officers of the Naval, Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Reserves and the National Guard. Public Health Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration officers also rate a salute when serving with the armed forces of the United States.

Ladies, I'm on this board not because my son is in this program, but because I live in Central Texas, and started out just looking for a sailor to invite for Christmas diinner. Now my son is stationed in San Antonio, he's a Navy corpsman, greenside with the Marines until now, now he's an instructor stationed at Fort Sam. The program he's teaching is 9 day field training for medical personnel and is techinically an Army one, but things are changing for the Navy in San Antonio. All medical training, including Navy, Air Force, Army will be in San Antonio beginning this summer. So your sailors will not be so alone! There will be a bunch of corpsman instructors, plus all those A School corpmen in the area. I wonder if they will move your program to Fort Sam, it makes sense to me to have Navy close together.

I will say that what my son is teaching is part of a huge program to make sure all medical and emergency personnel work together in times of crisis and war, so hopefully those feelings spread around. That said, as a Navy brat and now mom, if I was an enlisted man, if I saw an officer of any sort while we were in uniform, I think I'd salute!

Matt said the same thing about how the Air Force people are not very nice! I told him to just not pay attention to it and keep his mouth shut LOL I am pretty sure he will be able to start classes tomorrow-he did "colors" twice yesterday and is on watch right now! He has already said that he is pretty sure the classes will be tough but he thinks he'll really LOVE this job! I am so glad b/c he's got at least 4 years of it LOL

Aw, Tess...you're a wonderful aunt? I can't remember if it's your nephew or brother...LOL Either way-he's blessed to have you! Lori- we are still in this together and will be able to compare notes week to week :)

Your sailors are freezing their butts off in San Antonio, central Texas is a deep freeze for 3 straight days! Did they have to bring this weather with them?? brrr...

Always new terms to learn...my favorite now that my son is in San Antonio is 96...means I have a shot of him coming home and as the weather warms, one by one my projects will move forward. I hope. maybe. or maybe not. but maybe.
