just a tidbit I wanted to share about graduation. Although the building where graduation is held does infact say Carter Hall on it, it is very small and on the window only. In very large print on the outside of the building it says SECURITY FORCES ACADEMY. This may make it easier for those looking for this building. Myself along with several others had a difficult time as there were several new guards when you entered Lackland and could not direct us on where to go. Also, for those of you looking for places to stay, if you find someplace on the 410 loop, it's super easy access to the base. We stayed at the Best Western on the 410 loop and we were at the base in less than 10 minutes!
:o)
There is usually some sort of announcement somewhere in navy.mil about major changes in curriculum and an increase to 13 weeks for the "A" School would fall under that. I have looked and haven't seen one yet. If anyone sees something in writing, let us know. Until then, or until a Sailor reports a projected graduation date that indicates a change to a longer "A" School, this is a rumor and may or may not be true. The last release concerning the "A" School was Navy Security Forces Director Visits MA "A" School (12/12/2013) and the last one that affects MA's in general is Enroll Today! MWD Handler Apprenticeship Now Available (02/13/2014).
Bubweena, yes, he and the others in the class will find out what changes, if any, there will be to phasing up for his class. Restrictions have affected all classes at times, some classes at times, and only some Sailors at times depending on those in charge when things happened and also on whether the actions that resulted in disciplinary action were happening for more than one class.
Bubweena, start a discussion above if you really want a place for loved ones of that class. We have found that only a few loved ones from each class find there way here though.
Interesting too that the folks that are saying NO are in VA whereas A school is in San Antonio. My son is set to graduate this Friday. The instructors there are the ones who are telling the classes now that it is in fact set to change as of April. It's the instructors that are telling them this. They told them that they were waiting on funding in order to make the change and then, because of how rigorous the course is they are rewriting it as well. Also, with regards to getting rid of phases, it's a 'temporary' fix to a problem. It didn't effect the senior classes as some had eluded to as they weren't the problem. They didn't get their phase cards taken away. It was newer classes coming in that had causes the ruckus so it's the next few classes AFTER class 090 that will not be allowed to phase up.
Here are some things that have contributed to the ongoing rumor that the training time will be increased to at least 9 weeks.
There used to be 3 "A" Schools and here are the times as reported by http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjob1/a/ma.htm:
Lackland AFB, TX -- 40 calendar days
Hampton Roads, VA -- 50 calendar days
Kings Ba, GA -- 50 calendar days
(The VA "A" School was closed in the fall of 2008 and the GA "A" School sometime before that. The training time was changed to 7 weeks sometime prior to 2008.) The Rating Information Card at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ma.pdf indicates "approximately 9 weeks" although it was 7 weeks at the time that the Rating Information Card was revised.
That rumor about increasing the training time (to 9, 10, 12, or 13 weeks) has been going around for quite some time. It is interesting how it crops up every now and then. If they do indeed make the change, then those affected will let us know.
