Heather, there are plenty of hotels in downtown SA that you might like.  They are off the River Walk and close to the mall and sight seeing areas.  Its about a 15 to 20 min drive to the base, but you'll have more to see if you're downtown.  By the base there are hotels, but there's nothing to see around there because its just a neighborhood.  So, downtown is your best best or you can stay off of Hwy 151 that is close to Sea World and in proximity to the malls and Fiesta TX.

@NavyMama - regarding the towels - I was told that they have towels that are given to them at Boot Camp and they bring those with them to A School.  My son said it was plenty and that they shouldn't need more because its just more to pack when they leave A School.

@Heather - I don't know much about the A School graduation since my son is presently in A School, but what I do know is soon after the quick 15-20 graduation (pinning ceremony) they have to move out their stuff from their room that same day.  Not sure on the time frame, but do know my son's roommate who graduated was told he had to get his things and go.

Will we be able to go sightseeing with our son before graduation or right after graduation ? What happens the day of graduation after they graduate.

We stayed downtown.  It was cheaper.  Chose Uber to get us to Riverwalk and back.  Inexpensive and convenient.

Good morning!  I am looking for suggestions on where to stay in San Antonio during graduation.  We will be kidless, so it will just be my husband and myself.  I was looking at places to stay on the river walk? Good? Bad?  So excited!

OK--that's good to know!  Thanks, again for the info!

NavyMama, good question about the towels/washcloths.  I asked my son if he needed any and he said no, but I will double check with him and get back to you on that.  Also, he said he pays zero for using the laundry mat there.  My son did have to teach a couple of the guys how to wash.  LOL  Apparently they never had washed their own clothes before.

Hi pokey1042, I'm sorry I didn't see your replies. I was looking on my phone at the posts and didn't see it.  I prefer using a desktop for this site as opposed to an android!  Anyway--thank you for the info! That helps a lot!  When you said "linens", does that also mean bath towels/washcloths?  I'm assuming it does, just want to double check.  Also, do they have to pay to use the onsite laundry?  Just thought we would load him up with some quarters, if that's the case, LOL.

Hi NavyMama, I have the info to your question below when I answered.  Hope that helps!

I'm a newbie to A School. My son's PIR date is August 10, and he will be going to San Antonio as an MA.  We know he can have technology, and a few civilian clothes, but is there anything else we need to be aware of that he will need?  For example: Do they have to supply their own bed/bath linens? Do they do their own laundry? Will they need an iron/ironing board or a steamer?  Sorry for the silly questions...I have read some info in an MA article, but didn't find the answers to these questions...maybe I just didn't read far enough?

FYI, I did also hand my son his birth certificate because he didn't have his passport and he is going to work on obtaining that on base to get that process going.
