Bubweena - PRP stands for Personal Reliability Program.  What it means - well, your guess is as good as mine.  I have basically been told not to ask too many questions and most of my questions won't be answered anyway.  As far as your question with are there MAs at most of the bases.  To my knowledge the answer is NO.  Anybody can 'stand watch'.  MAs are specially trained to do other things.  The MAs are sent to Greece, Italy, Bahrain, Cuba as well as other places.  Yes, there are some that are left stateside.  The MAs can work with dogs, they can do PRP, the can do Riverine, etc.  There are so many different responsibilities.  Your sailor will be told what the different duties are that are available for him/her.  As far are meals in the chow hall.  Yea, that was a tricky one for my sailor too.  Especially because at Lackland the chow hall is super busy.  My sailor told me they take $3 per meal per day - 3 meals a day. That is whether they eat or not.  I had a problem with this because they don't always have time to eat and chow hall is only open certain hours of the day. The way I understand it, they don't have a choice.

Huskies, enjoy PIR and your time with your new Sailor. We got all day Friday and then all of Saturday at the airport with ours last weekend. PIR is amazing.

Amazonannie, my son said they take money out of his paycheck to pay for his food. Supposedly they are going to be reimbursed for that but I won't hold my breath. I think it is terrible that they have to pay to go to the chow hall. My husband said it was not like that when he was in. The amount he td me they take out was ridiculous, it is almost as much as I spend a month and there are 5 of us here at home. No way he should be paying that much.

Huskersfan, where did your son end up getting stationed? I read about that test PRP. It stated many times "no waivers" my son had a couple of waivers coming into the Navy so I have to assume by that, that no matter how well he does on the test that he win't be considered because he had waivers coming in??
He has been in San Antonio since the 25th of January. He has had to Muster 2 times a day since being there. He has stood watch 1 time and has taken a few classes already. Do they all phase up at the same time? I would think since he has already done so much that he would phase up quicker?

Huskerfan, by what you have written below, I don't think there is anyway my son will be able to come home for his wedding. I am just heart broken not to mention financially broken. This is going to kill his fiance. I guess I better call everyone tomorrow to see if we can move it up to when he gets his leave after graduation. If he gets stationed overseas somewhere, which it sounds like he will by what you said, I am going to have to really do some rearranging. I don't think it will be possible. I am sure the venue will be complety booked.
I can't imagine even if he gives up his leave and goes straight to his duty station that they wouldet him come home on leave a month later from over seas. This whole thing just makes me sick. Do they not have MA's in the states? I would have thought that all bases have MA's. OMG OMG Sorry I am freaking out. We should have neveristened to the stupid recruiters. They kept telling us it would all be fine.

Hi everyone! I am so glad to read all your comments. Thank you for all the info. My son's PIR is tomorrow! I was so prepared for BC but haven't really researched the next step. Tomorrow will be -5 when we go to PIR. I am so happy for my son who is going to San Antonio TX! It is WAY too cold here!

What is PRP stand for when you say they qualify for PRP?
Comment by HuskerFan on February 6, 2014 at 8:29pm

Bubweena - INCOC is a test that they need to pass in order to get their phase 1 card.  They also need to have duty so many times, pass inspection and muster a certain # of times.  If they do all those things, then and only then do they get their phase 1 card.  At that point they can leave base.  They still will be required to wear their uniform to leave base.  After they have continued to test well and do as they are required for 2 additional weeks, then they will get a phase 2 card.  At that point, they can then wear civilian clothes.  My son will be graduating on the 21st. As far as being informed about duty stationed.  With my son's class, it was done after OC spray and INDOC testing.  This was the 2nd week of class.  There is an order to it.  The guys who qualify for PRP got first pick for their duty station - and their are 2, both of which are stateside.  Then, it goes in order of their test scores.  With my son's class there was 1 billet to Greece, 1 to Japan, 1 to Italy, but the majority of them were to Bahrain and Cuba.  There were a few exceptions.  1 gal was staying stateside because she had a small child.  They told them 1 was staying stateside because of her credit.  So, there are different factors that play into some of the locations as well. Def read thru the week by week break down as it has a lot of great info in it.  Keep in mind as some of it can/does change, but not much.  I know with my son's class they didn't end up doing the night shooting as base was closed down one day because it was so cold.  Instead of holding them back, they just skipped that days class completely and moved on.
