NavyMama, hello and welcome!  Yes, he can have his laptop and phone with him.  The rooms come with small refrigerators and a microwave and a restroom.  My son has one roommate.  On his floor they do have a laundry room where they do their own laundry.  There is a cleaners on base where the uniforms can be taken too.  The room also comes equipped with linens.  I asked my son the other day if he needed an iron and he told me no that there was one in his room.  The only thing I believe my son has purchased is cleaning supplies and microwavable food (pizza rolls, etc.).  They clean their own room and that gets inspected during the week.  The one thing we purchased for our son was a Hot Spot that way he has his own WIFI.  The base will charge for the use of the WIFI while he is there and I hear it's not very good because so many people are hooked up to it.  With him having his own Hot Spot he won't have issues getting on his computer or phone for the internet.  OH and this Saturday I gave him paper plates and napkins.

Heather, if he's there now in A School he should have an estimated date thus far.  My son arrived to A School late on the 21st and he had his estimated date four days later.

I'm available if you or any of the mom's have questions about SA.  Feel free to message me if you or comment if you have any questions about hotels, what to do, what to see, etc.  I was born and raised here and I was an Air Force Brat too lol, so I practically grew up at the bases as well.  I believe there is a San Antonio mom's site, but I don't see much action on there compared to this one.

I'm a newbie to A School. My son's PIR date is August 10, and he will be going to San Antonio as an MA.  We know he can have technology, and a few civilian clothes, but is there anything else we need to be aware of that he will need?  For example: Do they have to supply their own bed/bath linens? Do they do their own laundry? Will they need an iron/ironing board or a steamer?  Sorry for the silly questions...I have read some info in an MA article, but didn't find the answers to these questions...maybe I just didn't read far enough?

Oh congratulations! !! I would love any feedback from your experience.  Places to go, eat, hotels?  Is this the only website for MA? at bootcamp there was so much to learn as parents on what to do, especially for PIR and liberty

WOW @Heather!  That's really cold.  LOL I was just telling my son's friends this past Saturday that SA practically shuts down if it rains too much or if we get any cold temperatures in the 30's.  His A School buddies started laughing, but its true.  Hope your son likes the base, Ft. Sam and Lackland are very nice.  My son and three of his buds had liberty this past Saturday and we took them out to the mall and to sightsee.

Thanks pokey1042. Oh boy that is so hot. Considering where he grew up in way way upstate NY. We are often at times in the winter the coldest spot in the nation. -40°F Christmas time last year!
