My daughter flew out of O'hare.  Very early arrival at the airport. Hurry up and wait.  Good luck to your sailor!

One shock that maybe I’d share here. When our child graduated from A school, they have to check out of their quarters that day.

My son just finished A school in June. They don’t really follow that week to week break down. My son got OC’d about week 6. They changed the training quit a bit for their protection. Recording it is also no longer allowed. The best thing is to communicate with your sailor. They know their specific schedule. Also my son was allowed an overnight chit.

When do they usually get OC Sprayed? What week?

NewNavyMom, graduation is usually in the morning, but is sometimes in the afternoon. (My Sailor's was at 1 pm.) Your Sailor should know the date and time of graduation. The ceremony lasts about 30 minutes to an hour and then the Sailor's take a few minutes to have someone pin on their badges.

The newly pinned MA's then march back to the MA School Quarterdeck before being released for Leave for those going home or for Liberty for those on HOLD. Some will also have to go to their barracks to be cleared. That all usually takes less than an hour to just over an hour for most who are able to go on Leave depending on the size of the class.

If you book a late afternoon or an evening flight, then you should be fine. If your Sailor is going on Leave (usually for 10 to 14 days), then check with him and you may be able to book the same flight.

My daughter had two weeks before she had to leave for Bahrain.  We ended up staying in San Antonio for a week, then flying home to WNY for a week.  Graduation was at 10 am and lasted maybe an hour.  Then the kids had to be out of their room by early evening.  Good luck!!
