Just said, yet another, goodbye to MA3 MWD Handler Wickline. It's official, ceremony was moving & lovely. So glad Al, my Dad, Fern & I made the trip. We got a class photo & DVD presentation  to boot!

So very proud of him. On the way back to the sand tomorrow & we're headed home.

No time with the dogs. It's not allowed. GRRRRRR! Chris says the Lackland breeding program is making some of the cutest little buggers he's ever seen! If an MWD has a double lettered name, like Zzeus, it's from Lackland's program.

Special bonus! We got to change out the front brake assemblies & hoses on the loser cruiser! WoooHooo!! Too much fun there.

BTW: the "goodbyes" aren't getting any easier for us. Hoped they might,
but, no.....

Hate 'em with a passion I didn't know I could muster. Keep him in your thoughts & prayers, please?

I went to visit my boyfriend at Lackland AFB this weekend and thought I would share some tips and info! I stayed at the Gateway Inn (Airman's Quarters) ...it had a shared bathroom which wasn't all that bad...the shower had absolutely zero water pressure so it took forever to wash my hair. The room was clean but out dated...but was all I really needed for $35/night! It was also right next to my boyfriend's barracks so it was super convenient! My boyfriend didn't know there were two gates/visitor centers-- so he went to pick me up at the wrong gate-- it was a big fiasco because it was getting close to his time to muster-- all worked out in the end, but be sure to ask your sailor which gate you should go to. I took a shuttle from the airport-- cost $34 each way...I was the only one on the shuttle so it was a quick 25 minute ride to Lackland. Definitely go to Seaworld with your sailor-- they get in for free and can bring up to 3 people with them to also get in for free. Cab rides are definitely pricey-- $30 each way to Seaworld. My sailor said he wasn't allowed to ride in any private cars (not until phase 3 I believe and he was in Phase 1)..just FYI :)

Hope this helps for those visiting base soon :)

My son graduated on 4/27/12 and he flew out of Midway.  He got to the airport around 2:00 a.m. and his flight was at 6:30 a.m.  We spend those few hours with him at the airport.  That is where we gave him his cell phone, charger, boxers, and baby shampoo.  It was worth every minute of staying up all night to be able to spend a little extra time with him.  We just went back to our hotel after we left the airport and slept a couple hours.

My husband graduated 4/20/12 and he flew out ORD (O'Hare)  He arrived at the airport at 4:00am on Sat for a 6:30pm flight.  He was told we were aloud to leave and he was able to drive with me. So we spent the day downtown. It was one of the best days of my life =)

In 2010 Chris got dropped off at 02:45am for a 06:30pm flight! At that time he could leave Midway & spend the day with us. He called us at 04:25am to see if we had stayed the night, thank goodness we had. It was an unexpected boon!

My daughter also flew out of Midway.  She was taken to the airport about 2 am for a 6:30 am flight.  Her dad and sister met her at the airport and spent a couple of hours with her and gave her the cell phone, some clothes, etc.

Hi Laurie Our son flew out of Midway, he was taken to the airport at 5am for a 5pm flight, so we hung out there with him.  We were told we could leave the airport, but we had to take a cab or train, we could not drive him anywhere.  We just stayed at the airport, where we were able to give him his laptop and cell phone. PIR is amazing enjoy

Hi all, curious as to what airport your sons/daughters flew out of after GL BC - was it ORD (O'Hare) or MDW (Midway)?  Trying to plan ahead - son's PIR is 6/8/2012.  Appreciated.  Thank you!
