My daughter is on week three in San Antonio, the first week she ended up with a financial class, then they started their classes. Today she was OC sprayed and called me saying how much it hurt, but she did it!  So proud!  My daughter loves it there, she said the people she is surrounded by are all really nice.  Congrats to those that just graduated!

I agree that the Navy is a great choice for some--mine included.  Mine also dreams of being a Chief--I'm not sure how high yet (E-7 is Chief Petty Oficer, E-8 is Senior Chief Petty Officer and E-9 is Master Chief Petty Officer).  Right now, I just hope he made E-5.  He chose sea duty to get that in since he will need it to be able to make Chief.

Thanks for the info & link! He may want Kennel Master later on. One goal is to become a Master or is it, Senior Chief.

Chris stumbled onto the kennel in Bahrain while hunting things to keep him busy, like it, then loved it & wanted to become a handler! He also looked carefully into how it could help his NAVY career & staying in the service. Very happy with his choices & how they are made. NAVY has been a great choice for him so far.

They receive on the job training throughout their careers and if they need additional training before going to a new command with different responsibilities than they currently have training for, then they may go to C School. Since your Sailor is in C School for MWD Handler, he may eventually decide to go to C School for Kennel Master. I see that Dog Handler has a 4 year commitment, so that is good. (See NEC Codes and details.)

Thanks "LE" never know how detailed to be! BTW: do higher ranks go back for training? Bet that could be interesting. Somehow Chris escaped the Mess mess. Hope everyone is feeling much better. My husband got fp a week prior to our wedding, it was rough. Sounds like this bout was really serious. Glad it got cleared up.

All of ours will be white stripes, by the way.

Comment by lemonelephant on April 24, 2012 at 11:20pm

asterzmom, she may be SR (E-1, No Strpes), SA (E-2, 2 stripes) or SN (E-3, 3 stripes).  It all depends on if she had college before BC or passed the test to advance in rate at BC. After A School graduation, you add the rating:  MASR, MASA, or MASN.

No word from Chris on FP.
He left boot as a "Seaman Apprentice", Most leave as that or as a "Seaman".
I got an app about Military Ranks, or google it, or hit Navy.com. Do you remember any stripes on sleeves; how many, color? White two is an SA, White three is a S. any help?!
