"A Sailor's security clearance will affect the billets that s/he is offered. Sailors with a poor credit rating will not be able to get Secret clearance, for example, which could limit the billets that are offered to them." That is in Break down week by week.

MJsproudmom, He will continue "A" School for now. Some have been able to graduate and it has limited the options for a duty station and others have had to get a new contract for a different "A" School that didn't require the security clearance. It all depends on what the hang up is. They will let him know what the options are as it gets closer to graduation.

My son is at MA school and he just found out that he still doesn't have clearance. He is one of 2 that doesn't have it yet. He is in school not on hold. Should he be worried? Any info would be great. Thanks.

sport11, your Sailor will fly out the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend and the info I left on your My Page.

I just got my son's Keel yesterday and his PIR was 11/26/14  For those who don't know (I didn't) it is like a yearbook. As far as when they leave after BC for A school--it's usually the next day I believe. Mine left 2 days later since it was Thanksgiving.

How long after your Sailor graduates from bootcamp do they go to school??

Comment by lemonelephant on January 5, 2015 at 3:20pm

It's too early to have The Keel yet. It is mailed around 12 or 13 weeks after PIR. See Division T-Shirts, Graduation Photos, The Keel, and DVD of PIR.

I would like to know if any of the moms got their son's Keel from Boot Camp graduation on 12/05/14 from Great Lakes.  My son said he ordered it along with a CD of graduation, but I have not received either as of yet.  I do not know even who to contact about it.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

While my son has not gone overseas we did talk to an MA who was in Bahrain and had only good things to say about it.  She saved enough money to buy a new car!!  The only downside was she had a small child in the states.

jessang, Bahrain is not too bad other than being hot; at least that is what my Sailor's good friend says. She will be going back in a few months and is considering 2 years, but that is so she can have accompanied orders. Those with unaccompanied orders have a 12 or 18 month commitment.
