While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by navymom3 on January 22, 2015 at 8:32pm: My son chose base housing this time until they find one to buy. The rent is very expensive so he said it is cheaper to make house payments. Once he got checked in it only took a week to get housing. They have a nice 3 bed 2 1/2 bath house. They have a son and one on the way.

I know they will store his household goods as long as they pack and move them instead of him doing a self move. Not sure about the car. He may want to contact his new command I am sure they have an answer. My son is CT also but CTM. He finishes his additional c school this week. He PCS from Japan so he had to buy a car when he got there. His wifes car was being stored at his brothers while they were gone a few months.

He doesn't think he'll have time to look for housing. So,does anyone know what he can do with his car? I'm concerned that if it's just left in a lot then..well..something could happened to it. He has an apartment now so he's hoping that due to the time issue that the Navy will store his household goods until he returns. This is his first pcs so everything is new to him. Any info on this is greatly appreciated.

Comment by 2boysandamom on January 21, 2015 at 12:13pm: Looking for some advice- son is stationed at Coronado (loving it by the way). We are looking at visiting in April for a few days. Do you stay at the Navy Lodge North Island or just get a hotel near there off base- if off base what would you recommend that is reasonably priced. I am concerned with being on base we will have limited access to things while we wait for my son to get off work. This is our first experience going to see my son besides boot camp. Thanks in advance for your help.

Comment by navymom3 on November 4, 2014 at 9:05pm: jaronsmom PCS is when they change duty stations. It is helpful that she knows the navy ways. But she had never been out on a ship so it was still hard for her when he was out at sea. Because the guys in the shop would tell stories about when they were out and women and partying so she questioned him a lot. But he is not the party guy like some navy guys. Hopefully your son will find good friends. What rate is your son? And is he going to be assigned a ship or shore duty. Mine is CTM and this will be shore duty for him.

Comment by navymom3 on November 4, 2014 at 1:01pm: My son and his wife met when they were both stationed in Japan. She PCS to San Diego for her last year then got out in Sept. She had been in Japan for 3 years. My son has been there almost 3 years now. Once she got out they both went back to Japan until he PCS in December to San Diego. They both like the warmer weather. It will be great to have them only at a 3 hr time difference. Right now it is 14 hr time difference. We had a skype date early this morning to open a box they sent us. It was 7am our time and 9pm there time. Found out I am going to be a grandma. I am so excited as it will be my first one. Except for the grandson I gained when they got married. Which I also love. He is 3 yrs old. He was only 3 months old when they met. His sperm donor wants nothing to do with him. So my son has always been daddy.

Comment by Saltyocean on September 6, 2014 at 6:14pm: Just joined this group.. At last found you Sailor is in(on) North Island as Rescue Swimmer and in FRAC training at this time.. Just Married, and wife finishing undergrad work and to move the start of the new year after finals. They are looking for military housing and think Bay View Hills(??) looked nice and was not in a ghetto,..Any comments or suggestions for them? Thanks for your help and knowledge.
