AwaitingMySailor - I've lived in San Diego for 24 years. You may want to look for something in East County (La Mesa, El Cajon, Santee) the commute would be about 30 minutes (depending on traffic) to 32nd Street and a little longer if he is on North Island. Chula Vista is also a good suggestion. I don't know of any actual complexes to recommend. I did live in El Cajon in a complex called Parkway Club. It was nice for us. I felt safe. I acutally lived there for a lot of years before I had my daughter and we needed to look for something a little bigger. I only moved out 3 years ago so it wasn't that long ago and when I was there the place was clean and the grounds were well-kept. There were families and singles. But I'm sure you can put in the areas I mentioned (or any others that you hear about) and find a whole bunch of places online. Good luck!
AwaitingMySailor, my daughter and son-in-law live in Chula Vista and you can see the mountains from their balcony!! It's a beautiful apartment with all new finishings, very nice!! They're both stationed on NASNI (North Island/Coronado) and in traffic when they're off at 4pm, it takes them about an hour to get home, but if they stand watch and travel when traffic is light it's only about 30 minutes. Our son who is currently deployed, is getting an apartment when he gets back and plans to look in this area, as well - he has several shipmates that also live in Chula Vista.
Good luck with everything - San Diego is beautiful, and I never want to leave when we have gone out to visit, lol - we are from Central Illinois, lived here all our lives. (can you say BORING? lol)
Hi Everyone, I have a question I am hoping someone can help me with. My son who is on hold in Great Lakes is set to leave for San Diego between Aug 19 and the 23rd. He said he has emailed his sponsor but has not heard anything back. Who should he talk to about this?
