For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

As far as Navy Lodges go, there is the one on North Island (SUPER nice!) but yeah, its really hard to get into. There is also a Navy Lodge on 32nd st, and we have stayed there for a few weeks when we were moving here, and its really nice, and I believe around $80 a night. So I would check and see about making reservations at either of them.

If you want to stay at a regular place, some of my girlfriends from Monterey were just here and stayed at a great Best Western right in the heart of Old Town, and it was gorgeous and affordable! Beautiful rooms and perfect location for all the shops and Mexican restaurants in that area! I believe it was called the Hacienda Hotel. I would definitely recommend this one to family/friends that need a place to stay in SD!

And, just like KathyMmom said, I can also give recommendations for places to eat!! There's SO many here its hard to choose where to go! What base/area of SD will you be visiting?

Comment by KathyMmom on June 19, 2013 at 9:48pm: I've visited San Diego a few times as my son is stationed at Point Loma. I think which base you want to be close to is a factor on where you want to stay. I know you might be at 32nd Street, North Island, Coronado, or Point Loma - so things are all over the place. For Point Loma, we stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott near Harbor Island, it was very nice, but not as cheap as the Navy Lodge for example. but the Navy Lodge is on North Island I believe, and harder to get to from the Point Loma side, unless you want to swim. :-) Unfortunately, we have spent most of our time in the Fischer House at NMCSD, but if I may have a few suggestions of food if you are planning on staying on the Point Loma side of things.

If you are there, take a drive up to Cabrillo Point - it's awesome on days when carriers are coming in or going out.

Have a great time in SD - it's beautiful.

I already asked him to find out about accomodation since i never been in San Diego, mean time I'm trying to find out about flights, and accomodation rates I am also trying to find out if there is any discount for family military members , every things is new for me about navy

There is a hotel on base. We have not been to SD yet either...we're going in October. Ask your son to look into this. I hear it's hard to find rates more reasonable than these accommodations. I'll check with my Sailor Son for some details...he has used these accommodations before for other visitors. Perhaps some other Moms can chime in? ~~~ gabrielsmomma

Very happy to have found this group. I had visited San Diego a few years back, so happy for my sailor to be stationed here. Three years of being 8,000 miles away wasn't fun. Out of harms way will be restful too. Am not, however, looking forward to my nail nibbling for his drive across country, but am happy for a bit of leave with us before he reports.

My MA MWDH will be leaving the "sand" in a few months to be stationed in CA. Guess the Kennel is a well kept secret, at least from me, so far ha ha! Are there any "paw sisters" here who can help?!
